SergZak - Is there a "master list" of unit IDs anywhere? Is there any rhyme or reason to the ID page for a DL such as above? I went looking and just did not stumble across the one for the 500. Almost seems somewhat random.

    I had a 255w for a couple of days.

Since I don't have my usb cable at the moment (put away moving from coast to coast) is my unit up to date enough? Came from BB.

    AUDIO VERSION: 1.00
    GPS SW VERSION: 2.55B
    SOFTWARE VERSION: 5.00

    Thanks!
  • Spyder63 221 Points
Firmware (Software) is up to date. v5.0. Others probably are as well. Someone with a 255 can comment more precisely.

Use the link Sergey provided above for the 2x5 and you will see all the firmware history/fixes for your particular unit.

Your 255W with Software 5.00, GPS version 255b, and audio version 1.00
is the latest version - similar to mine bought and updated on April 29, 2009. You are all set -assuming you have updated your maps to NT 2010

Free, mandatory GPS software available now

June 24, 2009 - posted in Ask Garmin, Garmin News, On the Road, On the Water,

Cf-md2 Today, Garmin released a free, mandatory GPS software update to correct a software issue that has been discovered to cause select GPS devices to repeatedly attempt to update GPS firmware, and then either shut down or no longer acquire GPS satellite signals. The products affected are the nüvi 7x5 series, nüvi 800 series, nüvi 8x5 series, zūmo 660, GPSMAP 620 and GPSMAP 640.

Garmin nüvi 7x5 series products that are no longer able to acquire a GPS satellite signal may download a firmware update immediately that will correct the software issue. This firmware update may be downloaded using Garmin’s WebUpdater.

Firmware updates for other affected products will be available online through Garmin’s WebUpdater in the near future. Affected customers who have registered their GPS device will be notified about these updates through email.

Garmin nüvi 7x5 customers who are no longer able to power on their GPS device will need to visit www.garmin.com/support, and select the first FAQ titled “My nüvi 755T, 765T, 775T or 785T is giving me the message ‘Updating GPS Firmware’ or will no longer power on…” Customers will then need to follow the instructions to request a return authorization so that the device may be repaired under warranty.

We know our customers rely upon their Garmin GPS device(s), especially during the summer travel season, and we regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused. We are committed to developing products that are known for their quality and reliability and will continue to work diligently to earn the trust of our customers.

  • My 780 gets a message that takes three try's of the "OK," to clear a message saying that there is a "mandatory software upgrade required..." However, there is no software, and I thought this problem did not apply to the 7x0 Nuvi's?
  • I have never updated by 850. I also cannot get Garmin's WebUpdater software, mandatory for use according to a Garmin recent email, to recognize my 850. Can I just download the 4.60 without using the WebUpdater and update the 850 or will this cause problems?

I opened another thread earlier today describing my problems with the WebUpdater. Thanks for any help.
  • SergZak 222 Points
Here's the direct link to the 850 firmware v4.60. Download it, connect the unit to the USB port, run the .exe file you downloaded & follow the directions. WebUpdater is NOT required for this firmware update method.

This was an update to the original Junction View (JV) file released with the original 2010.10 map update. The original JV file in the original download was broken. This "fix" was released so users would not have to re-download the entire 2 GB map update just to get the corrected file. The corrected JV file was included in subsequent releases of 2010.10. I believe the most recent release was 2010.10C.
  • jphall73 0 Points
Thanks for the info. I found that out right after my previous post and according to Garmin, mine has the latest map update. Thought it may have been a file that added more locations for JV. Wishful thinking
  • SergZak 222 Points
There will likely be an updated JV file released with the next map update since the maps and JVs are tied together for each release. Now will it contain newly updated JV data? It's very likely that it will but no one except for Garmin knows for sure exactly what was added (or removed) from the JV database.

    @SergZak

How do you know what version of map 2010.10 you have? When I look at the map info on my 855, it just says 2010.10. No indication of version a,b, or c. I was just wondering because of the junctionview post and link above.

    Thanks

Hi folks, new to the forum & looking for help.

I bought a nuvi 215 last Friday. From the box all worked fine, paired with my phone for Bluetooth, maps fine etc.

Then I decided to register on the Garmin website. I was told there was a firmware update I needed so I installed the Garmin web update - I'm now on version 5.10.

Since this I cannot pair the nuvi with any bluetooth device and more importantly, there is no voice command. I have made sure the volume is at 100% and the voice is not muted.

Does anybody have any idea? I've been through the not so user friendly Garmin support but to no avail.

    Please help,

    Thanks,
    Pat.

For any new member with a Garmin Nuvi 255, here is how
my newest update changed the software today, August 22, 2009

    Previous Software Version 5.00
    Previous Audio Version 1.00
    Previous GPS SW version 255b

New Software Version after update: 5.30
    New Audio Version 2.20
    New GPS SW version 3.10

    Did I noticed any improvements?

Yes. A) Louder audio. I kept at 80% before; I reduced to 60% now
    b) Smother screen - almost imperceptible.
  • Interesting. When I updated my 255w a few weeks ago to 5.30 my GPS SW went to 3.10. However, my audio version stayed at 1.10.
