How to decipher the satellite screen?

When the satellite signal strength icon in the upper left of my Nuvi 855 is pressed, the satellites screen pops up. I understand the meaning of the signal strength bars and the sun and moon icons, but am not sure about how to decipher the large circle with the satellite icons. Specifically, is this a view of the sky if one were to raise the screen over your head and look up at it? Looking at the screen, the sun icon is on the left side near sunset, so would North be at the bottom of the screen, or would it be at the top of the screen as if one were looking from above down at my position? Also, what is the red dot that moves around the circumference? TIA.
