Is it common for the battery to lose it's charge if not used for a period of time?

What model do you have? For most models, just turning the unit off doesn't truly shut it down, just puts it in sleep or hibernate mode...with a resulting slow drain on the battery.

If your model has a dedicated reset hole, just depress it with the unit off. That does shut it off.

If not, hold the power button (with the unit on) for what will be the longest time, maybe 20 seconds or so while the unit reboots AND then goes to a diagnostic screen with a black background and white text. Then tap the power button quickly to turn it off.
  • I have TomTom One, when you say a dedicated reset, I have a little white button for reset on the bottom. I'll give it a try, thanks.
