Hi everyone. I'm the new guy. I found some info eluded to online, but need some confirmation. This involves using a vehicle gps mapping device such as a Garmin or Tomtom's gps receiver as a tracking device. I found a PC application that supposedly does just that. Just wondering if anyone here has experience in this area?

Your GPS reciver is just that, a receiver. You can't use it for tracking as it doesn't transmit its location. It can though be made to save a track of where it's been, which can be looked at on the GPS or via a PC.
  • AFAIK garmin/tom tom automotive devices can be additionally connected to a fleet management cable and then to a tracked

but as sussamb pointed alone the automotive navigation gps devices are just a receivers.

You can look also at garmin GTU 10 tracker:

unfortunately it is not a mapping device.
