Setting up wayward points

Another newb here- montana 600 - want to pre set up wayward points for a trip out at sea. I can only see how to set up a present location as a wayward point.

Also need very detailed maps - for sea - North West Europe, and road for Ireland??

Thanks

Usually we just call them "waypoints" instead of "wayward points". :)

How do you want to choose the location of the points? Do you want to manually enter coordinates? If so, press the Mark Waypoint button on the main menu, then click the Edit button. Now tap the Location field that shows the coordinates and enter anything you like. You can also choose a different icon and name for the waypoint if you like.

If you would like to choose the waypoint location by picking a point on the map screen instead, follow the same procedure but instead of entering the coordinates, tap the button at the bottom of the screen that looks like three horizontal bars, then choose Move Waypoint from the menu. That will take you to the map screen where you can pick the location you want.

To see the tide tables, from the main menu press Where To. Now scroll way down the list - you can drag it with your finger or optionally press the down-arrow button at the bottom. You will see a button near the end of the list that says Tides. Tap that and it will display the tide tables for your current location. If you want to see them for a different location, press the button at the bottom of the screen that looks like nine short lines with long line beneath. That will allow you to search for other locations.

Enjoy your Montana. I've had one for several years and love it!

Glad I could help! For marine maps, I think you will need to go to Garmin and purchase what you need. Just go to http://www.garmin.com, click on Maps and follow the links.

For roads, you might look at the free openstreetmap project for starters. See: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

There are other sources for free maps, but like anything free, the quality can vary. You could look at http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/ but it's pretty US-centric.

We have another member in the UK that can probably make additional suggestions for map sources.

I managed to download this map onto my MacBook Pro. From there I dropped it into my Garmin Montana 600 (as it was plugged in) but how do I see it on the garmin, or do need to do something else??

First, it needs to be unzipped and then placed in the Garmin folder on your Montana.

Then you need to go to SetUp, Maps and enable it (if not already enabled).

Thanks for that reply but I still can't see the map I downloaded.....

    ????

    Did you unzip the file?

Did you then place the unzipped .img file in the Garmin folder on your Montana?

If you did, do you see the map listed when you go to SetUp, Map, Map Information?

Is it marked as Enabled or Disabled?
