OOPS!!!! Formatted my nuvi 250.

No backup---Can anyone give me the list of files and folders that belong on the nuvi 250. I am trying to rebuild it folder by folder.

Maps are licensed and locked to each individual device by serial number so without a backup you won't be able to activate your maps. You will need Garmin's help for that.

As an alternative, you could install the free openstreetmap files. You would need to name the map gmapprom.img, like the original Garmin map. See this thread: http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/17680/can-a-gmapsupp-img-be-named-as-gmapprom-img-loaded-in-nuvi

But you will also need a basemap, not sure if the Nuvi will work properly without one. That file is named gmapbmap.img. There used to be a way to get a copy of an old version of the basemap but it doesn't seem to be available anymore, see: http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/11580/oh-oh-i-accidentally-deleted-the-basemap-gmapbmap-img

I beleive that missing file is actually one of the iQue 3600 software updates however, and they are archived here: http://www.gawisp.com/perry/ique/

After downloading, unpack the archive with program like WinZip and look for the gmapbmap.img file.

There are a lot of other files you will need of course, and I can't really help with that.

Sorry, I forgot to post a link to openstreetmap: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl
  • Looks like I was misunderstood. I did format the nuvi 250 drive without backing it up. I do have the maps on a sdhc micro drive. What I don't have is all the files and folders that need to be replaced on the nuvi. I have found some of them but I need a list of all the files and folders so that I can look for them online. Thanks for your continued help.

Have you tried Garmin Express and or WebUpdater? They may be able to provide the files you need. That is good news about the map file, you should be able to copy it to the Garmin folder in internal memory. If your maps were on a card however, you may only have gmapprom.img and not gmapbmap.img or gmaptz.img.

Sorry, can't help with the file list, but try express or webupdater for starters.
