My 2597 got a new update

I got a new update today (version 5.40) and the single changelog line says -Added improvements for handling larger map files.

I am wondering if this has to do with the new map update coming and the size of it would create problems?

Interesting. It could be something to deal with the 4gb limit. But I doubt Garmin will abandon the FAT32 filesystem, so maybe they will break the map into multiple files.

I think this update is pretty much system wide. I have the same update available for my 3597.

Offered for mine as well except the older 13xx/14xx devices. Wonder what it is? Modern devices can already handle multiple maps so it really needs a change to Express to break the map into multiple files, rather than a change to device software?

Well it could be as simple as a user interface change that shows a single map instead of multiple .img files.

I have a 2597 as well, and no updates of any kind (according to Garmin Express or Webupdater)
What is the "5.40" relating to. I know the latest firmware for the 2597 is 8.50

That is a new one to me. Other than software, what is the difference between the 2xx7/8 and the 2xx7/8 C4?
  • the c4 has strong MSV protection - will likely prevent seeing unlocked maps.
