Moving from TomTom to Garmin

I've got a user manual for a Garmin Drive 50 and it seems to do everything I want it to. However I am moving from using a TomTom and I have hundreds of personal POI's in several custom categories, and I want to confirm what I read somewhere that these can be imported into a Garmin?
I can't find that bit in the manual so I would like someone to confirm if that can be done please.

I know they can be but I've never done it. I'm sure someone here will have done so though.

Edit: Having had a quick Google there are numerous explanations out there, just Google converting tom tom pois to Garmin

    Try this: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com

You need to convert to a .gpx file. If you would like to try before you buy, download Garmin Basecamp (it's free): http://www8.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp

You can then import the .gpx file. It will only have a very simple map unless you install a better one, however it should be good enough to determine whether your data comes across properly. If it looks OK, it should work on the GPS itself. You can also do some editing if desired.
  • Ace, cheers!
