Rugged Smartphone v Premium GPS
Wow Chris, take care of yourself! It's great that you were able to get back on the road though.
Personally, the DriveTrack 70 has brought me back into the "Garmin tent". As a mapmaker, it allows me to combine layers of traditonal Garmin vector-based maps with raster imagery - the best of both worlds.
Not the kind of thing you would want on a bike though (unless you could find some kind of case).
Lot of 'Stockholm Syndrome' I have seen in reviews, such as the 276CX which ran like a dog for me but some have spent their pennies on it so it must be wonderful.
The phone apps still somewhat lack the polish of the dedicated GPS units for me, but the phone hardware I have is sooooo much quicker in processing.
I'll take a closer look at the Drivetrack, had been keeping an eye on that thread. Haven't drowned the AGM yet but it's supposed to be fully waterproof (hint of distrust until proven!!)
