add-on GPS for a PDA in Africa: which model?

We use PDAs for health surveys and want to add GPS capabilities to the PDAs we already have (Dell Axim X51 and iPaq). We'd like to know which model to use. Price is an important consideration, as is reliability. We do not need maps or software.

We've look at Garmin Mobile 1.0 and Tomtom Navigator 5.0, both of which cost around $200 as well as various Pharos SD and compact-flash Receivers from $120 to $150. The Pharos do not get good reviews.

Our questions are:
1. Any recommendations as to brands?
2. Is there any way to get these cheaper, without the mapping software?

If all you need is a Bluetooth GPS for your PDA (no software) then I would suggest looking at the models from GlobalSat. You can find information about them here. I've used their products in the past, they work quite well, and are reasonably priced.
