I wish there was an app that could highlight the differences between the maps.

Such a list would give their competitors a checklist for their own updates. :)

At one point they used to very broadly overview what areas (Provinces, Sates) saw more significant updates, but the map update process is so different today that all areas get more or less the same level of focus.

Competition? Dont they pretty much all get the same info from the same provider(s)?

HERE, TomTom, Waze/Google, Apple, OSM, etc. They are all competitors in map data.
