  • Target has the Garmin 1450LMT on sale for $159.99 on their website today, the same price it will be tomorrow in stores.

If you use the promo code UZXPI33P you get 10% off (found on fatwallet.com). With standard shipping and tax my order came to $158.19! Shipping will be a bit slow (estimated Dec 8-17 for standard shipping) because it won't be shipped out for 1-2 weeks, but it's worth it for me.
  • I planned to be there 4am. Wife tried to reserve one late yesterday, no go, they have 20 in stock. 1450 LMT. Bonus -8. coupon as wife did some shopping there too.

Oregon 450 is selling for $230 today at GPSCity. That's the lowest price I've ever seen (the famous REI sale was $250). Not sure, but it might only be a one-day Black Friday deal, so act accordingly!

Managed to pick up a Garmin 265WT at Staples that's supposed to come out to $100 after a $20 mail-in rebate. I figured I'll use this until the 2300 is debugged...

North Carolina residents will pay 7.75% tax. Also, just because a vendor does not COLLECT tax doesn't meant that your state feels none is due. For example, your state thinks you should file form CU-7 and pay "use tax" for items such as these. I'm sure you already do that however. I believe you will find that almost every state has a similar provision.

    http://www.tax.virginia.gov/site.cfm?alias=IndividualFAQ3
Typically, you incur the consumer's use tax if you made more than $100 in purchases during the year for which you did not pay sales tax. Common instances of these types of transactions are purchases from the Internet, mail-order catalogues and cable television shopping channels. The tax also applies to tax-free purchases you make outside of Virginia, such as buying furniture at an outlet in another state and having it shipped to Virginia. The tax is 5% of the cost of regular non-food purchases and 4% on purchases of food for home consumption. Report the tax by filing Form CU-7 by May 1 each year, or by reporting it on Schedule ADJ, line 21.
  • Thanks for the clarification Boyd. What I "meant" to say was, "no tax due at the time of purchase, but check with your local and state laws in regards to required reporting for usage tax purposes."
  • Boyd 1725 Points
Yeah - no big deal, but just wanted to point that out since I know everyone wants to comply with all their local tax laws. :) With states looking under every rock for a few bucks, we might see more strict enforcement of this in the future. There have already been proposals to create a unified system for collecting taxes from internet vendors, regardless of their location.

Oregon 450 is coming up at $270 today at Amazon. A couple days ago it was $320. No idea how long this price will last.
  • Amazon's prices are all over the place. Saturday I saw the PN-60 listed at $249 and then Sunday morning it was up to $321. Later that same afternoon, it had dropped to $269.

While researching prices I found a link to a site that provides historical pricing data on Amazon items. I've been watching the PN-60 for a few weeks and the prices they show are legit. Maybe it will help someone deterime if it's a good time to buy or not.

Here's the link with the Oregon 450 data. Looks like a good time to buy!

Garmin GPSMap 60cx is on sale at Amazon for $170. 60csx is $200 which also isn't bad. :)
  • Boyd 1725 Points
Amazon is offering some GPS "lightning deals" today - you need to catch them at exactly the right time however. A couple that stood out for me were a DeLorme PN-40 for $200 and a Garmin Legend Hcx for $152.
  • Boyd 1725 Points

PN-60w including the SPOT is $400 in today's lightning deals at Amazon. Since I don't follow that model, I have no idea whether that's a good deal or not. :)
  • gatorguy 224 Points
Must be a Delorme Deal Day. the Amazon lightning deal is now the PN-40 for $170, the lowest price I've seen on it.

Eastern Mountain is offering significant (and hard to find) discounts on the new Garmin GPSMAP 62s and 62st. $319.96 and $399.96 respectively.
  • Boyd 1725 Points
You blink and you miss something in this market! Oregon 450 is down to $240 today at GPSCity. Dakota 20 is $200 (for the extra $40, I'd get the Oregon though).

I'm just wondering.... is anybody gonna make money selling these things this year? We are seeing some surprisingly low prices. Nice year to be a buyer, maybe not so hot for the retailers (Best Buy got slapped by the market yesterday after a disappointing report).
  • gatorguy 224 Points
And overall gps sales are off about 30% as of last week.

Where did you see those figures, Gator?
  • gatorguy 224 Points
Dang, now I'll have to go back and find 'em.
  • gatorguy 224 Points
I was wrong. It wasn't 30%. . . it was worse at 37% off last years sales pace.
