  • plus the smartphone link gives you menu choices on what traffic alerts you want to come up. At least on my 61ds it does.
  • Of course that works when you're in an area you're familiar with. That would be annoying on a long trip in unfamiliar territory. These gps units have always sent us off on wrong roads or odd ways..you have to be careful. Still better then maps.
  • The 61 does appear to have a brighter screen than the 60. I agree. As you know I can't help but rave about this unit. And it is so cheap.. amazing.. between the way it transfers files to pc to how fast it can move about in menus and navigate around…
  • I find the screen is much sharper and brighter now with this DS61. The best yet for Garmin.
  • I like the active lane guidance..it shows the detail, contours, etc on the lane or lanes. I don't need the whole screen showing to navigate while merging . The arrows are just arrows no real depth to the meaning of them. I love the JV because it sh…
  • My 61 DriveSmart lmts enters mass storage the same as my dezl did as well as the 2797. With a one time option or full time option. And yes it asks if you want to go to mass storage mode when putting a usb to it. Very fast and effective. The traff…
  • $700 aint much... for a lot of us...I'm blessed still at 68 yrs old.. probably will buy one for my Yami 4 stroke snowmachine...leave the Montana home or only for hiking.
  • I meant loading to PC...sorry... I never new you couldn't send them back to the gps. Ha.. oh well. I still love the 61..so far..better then Dezl 760 going across the usa and back starting last week in August.. Route is made as well as places within …
  • You can turn off the green hearts, at least on my DriveSmart 50 you can Settings -> Maps & Vehicle -> Map Layers -> uncheck "Up Ahead Places Believe me you can't. I tried everything over and over. And what you mentioned above. Been th…
  • I don't think the 276cx can be that bad..many are using it. Not every gps is perfect. I know my Montana's screen is much brighter then the wifes new Oregon 700.
  • Been having an issue recently where the 680T refused to go into USB mode if my generic OSM map was enabled. Latest software update today professes to fix a potential display problem and now the 680T goes into USB mode with the OSM map enabled. Gues…
  • Did 4 long hikes this past long weekend... all day long types..many miles.. used Garmins OEM battery. Never got close to running out. Left it on all day. Turned screen down and locked screen in between looking at it. Bright as heck in the sun.. ama…
  • I have no issues using the screen on my 680. I hike all day every weekend for 8 hrs a time in the woods and mountains. Cloudy days and sunny days..I also come back with 3/4 batteries. I set the display to 15 seconds.. do to the 680 screen being ab…
  • I will know this coming Sunday.. I live in Northern NH. no traffic here.. and will post back Monday.. I have one issue.. The green hearts show on my map screen when driving. They are my self made favorites. I have many in one area due to business …
  • Mine has been asking to load geocaches when starting... don't want that and don't want the message.. know of anyway to stop the 680 from doing this?
  • yea..don't need improvements at this point... I still use only MS and Basecamp.. both do my route planning on my trips out to Glacier Yellowstone etc. with POI's along the way as well as hiking snowmachining and most importantly navigating and commu…
  • I never noticed an issue with my Monterra.. make sure your battery settings/charging settings are in order... It's been a while since I owned one but I never had a charging issue.. the battery always showed it being charged when connected..
  • Well...how you making out with the 680T?
  • They actually got tripped up in our spam filter. A notice does appear indicating that... but it flashes by and many people don't see it. Why can't I delete ?
  • My 680 seems to show up faster in Basecamp as well... so enjoy.
  • sorry about the multible postings.. had issues trying to post this early am.. must of been traffic or server issues..
  • We'll see what Garmin doesInteresting that they sell a version with lifetime City Navigator maps. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/539722/pn/010-01607-05 I guess nobody would want to use it in the city though, and anyway it only costs $800 so what…
  • Backtracking on the Monterra, I have tried a couple of the tests of the three point compass on the new 680T I have received and there does appear to be a bug which may also apply to my tests on the Monterra. Calibrate the compass and invert the 680…
  • Ditto here, I have a 6Tb file server that the network is backed up to every day (raid 10) and that in turn is backed up via USB to an external 6TB disk once a month that is kept off site. No changes have been made to my system apart from multiply f…

  • It works for me fine..I've use a a bunch of times since.. glad to hear win 10 works.. I have win 7...I just disconnect the cord.. I don't bother with ejecting.
  • For his use it works fine.. guess if your using it for city navigating and routing it is slow.. I would use it like he did ..off road... no routing.. just tack following and recording, etc.
  • I'm getting the 276cx in the fall most definitely.. hopefully some prices will be down or refurbished available.. I want it for my snowmachine.. a hard care Baha rider loves it. He gave a great report on it on his 1000 mile trip up the peninsula at…
  • Get the 680.. I used it yesterday on my snowmachine and no map spinning.. this unit has worked flawlessly for quite awhile.. very impressed with it between glonass and the updates for it...
  • My Monterra never did that hiking at all for many months I used it... Never had a chance to put it on my snowmachine...
  • Boyd my Monterra was better then my Montana 600.. is what I probably meant due to Glonass in the Monterra. I did like the Monterra's functions, screen and reception but when I found the bearing issue and tried every method to fix it I contacted Garmi…
  • Swell so now your stuck with an obsolete Monterra that doesn't navigate right and never will. Maybe the new 680 fix would do it.. for you.. I have win 7 on a Dell laptop and have no problems with usb.. and again the latest fix takes care of it not s…

  • This latest update I did yesterday has fixed the USB issue.. thanks Garmin.
  • I had a Monterra... returned it after 6 months..(only got Cabelas credit no reciept) because the bearing was off and it's a known problem.. no fix.. Garmin sent me a new one and that was off so off it went.. Got back to my Montana 680. Which is righ…
  • I haven't used it yet... but it must be the fix...
  • My gut feeling is that you'll still hit trouble again sooner or later if the 680T refuses to safely disconnect. If Windoze refuses to safely disconnect it doesn't sound like it's being loaded as a portable device as pulling the rug out from under th…
  • I'll try device manager next time thanks.. also I want to try a 276cx for my snowmobile.. I use the 680 for hiking and snowmobileing now... would love the buttons as my gloves are a pain in the butt ..on the screen..of 680..also the larger screen wo…

  • Yes, I actually bought one of those MSN receivers for my Nuvi 5000. But I returned it after a few days when I found how terrible the coverage was. ;) It appears that Live Traffic is now free with the smartphone link app but weather radar, traffic c…

  • I own a 680T now... with win 7... my win 7 see's it and the sd card fine.. but when I disconnect it stays in the usb mode.. I have to disconnect the battery for a second then it will be shut off. Works fine other then that.
  • Seems the easiest thing to do is to figure a small notebook or similar you can transfer back and forth that will have long battery life. Or bring spares. They stay charged for a while. I have a small Dell that charges from my truck. This way you …
  • Did you check over at the Geocache fourms? those guys are ace's at gps use.. you might need to change the file setup in storing or naming, etc. something simple. It may be the way you are doing it. I had a lot of my many ( not 4000 but) WP's on.Custo…
  • Re Lane assist is the little arrows at the top left of the screen. These come up all over the place for me, everywhere. I consider it a must-have for street navigation. Maybe you're thinking of junction view? I'd hope a $800 GPS would be better tha…

  • Those motorcycle guys are loving this new one... real bright in sunlight... probably because of the no touch screen. They don't care about lane assist..I rarely use it myself ..I mean it hardly comes up while traveling..or typing in numbers, etc by t…
  • Conceived by a Biker at Garmin and had to press them a while before being approved...nice... fits my Monterra mount's...I'll be getting one for my snowmachine... save my Monterra and Oregon 700 for hiking only..
  • Well Garmin just keeps making these better and better .little at a time...Better antenna on this 700,etc. Garmin seems to be way ahead as usual then most folks comprehend with these gps units... We just bought a 600 T Oregon..good enough for us..…
  • Can't stand using a Iphone for gps use..... it's a phone...not a gps for the road.. so be careful about what you buy.
