  • Perhaps RFI problem from the motorcycle ignition? Does it do the same thing on a bicycle? But geez… just get a refurb Montana 650 and be happy. Thanks guys, I have now instigated a return request, but just wanted to be fair to the seller that my Mon…
  • OK guys, something a bit more definitive! Repeated the tracking test outside and worked fine with no wandering so that was a red herring on my part - sorry! Weather better so went out to try and get some film of the Monterra map gyrating on the mot…
  • Thanks, I don't want to go chasing the seller unless I am absolutely certain the Monterra is defective and I am not at this stage. I don't remember the Montana wandering when stationary anything like this, The tracking was not 100% clean but the …
  • Would still appreciate an opinion on my Monterra Left it sitting by the window for a couple of hours and the track did 16 miles
  • Does the PC say what the error is in installing the drivers? Have you tried installing the drivers as an administrator if its an access problem?
  • Yup, not been my year with Garmin GPS'ers!! Refurbed Monterra was only ever to be a cheap stop gap until the 680T got fixed or preferably the 276CX became the 276CXI
  • There was no point in keeping the Montana as it was not recognised as a USB device and thus could not update it with any fix, it had to go back.
  • Cheers Boyd, Test was done in the open as well, more easy to video indoors in the dry! Took it a stage further and inverted the Monterra outdoors and North becomes South and vice -versa, was not expecting that after calibrating in all three axes.…
  • Hi again, 650t was brilliant until some scrote pinched it. Subsequently 276CX was useless and 680T had the USB lock-up problem, both went back. Regarding the Monterra which I quite like the look of, I calibrated the compass in the open in all thre…
  • So are we saying that it should not flip bearing when rotated with the same end kept pointing North?
  • Thanks, Have heard back from Dan Townsley who does not think the map problem is related to my comments on the compass. I normally used TalkyToaster maps on my Montana before it was stolen and was using a different OSM map yesterday which seemed to…
  • Thanks, will take a look Playing with the Monterra and pointing due North along the long axis I note that it loses orientation if I rotate the Monterra 90 degrees via the short axis, keeping the long axis pointing North. As in the video https://yo…
  • Thanks, any noticeable difference on your unit thus far please?
  • Well that is a Montana update and it sounds like it might be related to the problem discussed here. http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/30751/montana-680t-not-showing-as-usb I hope so as I have been relying on a second hand monterra since my 276C…
  • My experience of the USB problem was more associated with the USB version. My 680 would not load on a machine with a dedicated USB 3 port, but would load on an older machine with a USB 2 port, all on Windows 10. May not be any use to you, but worth…
  • Looks like consensus on AVRider is now that the 276CX is, and will remain, not fit for purpose.
  • My gut feeling is that you'll still hit trouble again sooner or later if the 680T refuses to safely disconnect. If Windoze refuses to safely disconnect it doesn't sound like it's being loaded as a portable device as pulling the rug out from under th…
  • Sorry to hear of your bother, even if it does concur with my worries over the device. Can you get it into USB mode at all? possibly on an older computer with USB2? Next step would be to try forced USB mode. My thoughts moving to a clean RGN install…
  • We've only just had 2017.30 over our side of the pond!
  • Appreciate the thanks! That's all I did on mine, can't say I noticed them after that.
  • It's under "Maps and Vehicles" / down key / "Audible Driver Alerts" on my Drivelux
  • Finally heard from Garmin after five days! They have offered me a replacement refurbished 680T in place of my ailing new one! Good job it's already on its way back to the retailer.
  • Yes we cab get refurbs thx. Montana internal and a set of AA's gave me a good eight hours which is fine for a day's classic bike rides. 276CX battery life was brilliant, I hope they will fix the problems.
  • Probably best. Had no such issues with my Montana 650 No my 650T worked fine before it was stolen as did the abortive purchase of the 276CX. Think I am going to wait a while before buying another new one, going to keep an eye out for a cheap used …
  • It's got me beat. The device could not be migrated message appears a lot when googling legacy usb on usb 3.0 but no one has a fix. I even tried disabling the USB 3 support in BIOS. Every test I ran with the Drivelux and/or 3790T alongside and every…
  • What is further weird is that having left the montana connected as if in powered cradle I shut down the PC and the montana went into mass storage mode!
  • It behaves differently with or without the microSD card. In garmin serial mode Without the SD card I just get the empty drive, no montana under Windoze and nothing to disconnect, 680T thus frozen. With SD card the SD drive shows but no montana, s…
  • Result of last night's test was that my friend's laptop recognised the 680T but it refused to disconnect cleanly and I had to pull the battery. His machine had one USB port (black) with DVMGR showing a USB 3.0 hub and a USB 2.0 hub, slightly config…
  • Arranged to meet a friend this evening who has a laptop with USB 3.0 on it will try that. Not necessarily definitive if the 680T works, but a definite answer if it does not!
  • Not enough 'G's in my phone
  • Phone costs money!! and I like to spend my pennies on devices, not British Telecoms!! Tried several cables & several ports, tried uninstalling the USB devices, tried driver updates but DVMR tells me I have the best ones. Still researching the U…
  • Thanks for the suggestions but I am still focusing on the 680T. My PC works fine with my Drivelux 50 (2016) and my 3790T. I have been down the route of installing the latest Garmin USB drivers as well. Have now heard from Garmin with forced USB mo…
  • Got fed up off waiting this morning so completed an RGN install on the 680T (poor instructions) from my old machine, made no change whatsoever. At least I know I have a clean install which means I cannot cure it now. Will advise when I hear from Ga…
  • That's exactly how mine started off. Still waiting to hear from Garmin or supplier here before possibly proceeding with RGN low level re-install. Situation now is still the same. USB3 machine only recognises the SD drive not the main drive though …
  • New to me but yes thanks! Mine has all those symptoms, mostly USB3 and a couple of USB2 ports though troubleshooting suggests USB3 drivers, also Windoze 10 Pro 64 bit, year old Scan 3XS gaming machine, very high spec. Works on Windoze 10 home mach…
  • Hi, yes, brand new, week old, replacement for the 276CX. Have emailed Garmin and the suppliers before proceeding. As Boyd said, not my lucky day! Just a little itchy as I have just returned one and the fact that I can see Garmin saying it is a P.C.…
  • After the experience with the ill prepared 276CX this has not repaired my thoughts on Garmin's competence - far from it! What do I know now as things have moved on very late last evening, cat got impatient and went to bed without me! 680T does not…
  • Usb failure might be a known problem. Looking at https://garminmontanagpsr.wikispaces.com/Recovery#Forced Mass Storage And https://garminmontanagpsr.wikispaces.com/firmware#Firmware History Second one mentions USB not being recognised. Anyone t…
  • Think it's well screwed unfortunately. Device appears under devices and printers as USN mass storage when plugged in, troubleshooting just says may not work under USB3 tried a USB2 port and get the same and 'not fixed' so no help there Removed SD …
  • Will take a look thanks

  • And the best to you as well! £300 back in the pocket is certainly preferable to a GPS that I felt let me down badly!
  • I tried two with contours on the 650T and it failed to boot. Quote from TT site Very Important: Please ensure that you only have ONE of my contours maps (Standard or TT 1:50K) on the internal memory and/or a MicroSD card at a time as otherwise your…

  • Thx. Free TT maps are not as nice though they road route. I like his Look/feel maps but routing is no good for aged motorcycles as the equally aged rider can't get over styles as well nowadays! Also you cannot have more than one of his maps with co…

  • Thanks , On the surface, as expected, the 680T is almost identical to the 650T. A lot more satellites available with the Glonass system. Battery claims were met on the 276CX which was excellent but I suspect am back to four hours with the di…
  • Thanks, assuming you mean straight copy. Don't quite know what happened but most of what I had added (menu items, routing profile set-ups etc.) had gone, but not everything, will manually set-up and back-up afresh this time in case the problem was c…
  • Refund for the 276CX appeared on my account this morning so Garmin were very helpful. Next question is grab a 680T in the post Christmas sales or wait and see if there is an upgrade to the 276CX as I won't use the GPS until next Spring
  • Emailed Garmin and was told they would refund even though it had been opened, no argument whatsoever. I guess they know of the problem. Sadly it's on its way back to Garmin, very disappointed as it looked so good. No way I can see them fixing that …
  • The Good: Battery life is superb, used it nearly all day yesterday and had loads of battery remaining The Bad: The screen refresh rate is absolutely awful under full screen and travelling. It is virtually unusable. The Ugly: Lack of portrait mode ma…
  • Nearly thrown the 276CX out of the window a few times trying to find stuff that the manual gives you no help on, but slowly getting used to the idea that keys are multi-function and if you keep pressing them different things happen. These menus do g…
  • Pottered around the block and tried a couple of very short routes and briefly it does everything the Montana did and more. My redundant Montana mounts all fit it. Screen is definitely better than the Montana, bigger and brighter and just looks nice…
