  • My experiences back up a similar conception. From previous posts of mine I have said that I have no faith in the routing on my Drivelux. I remember well trying to get across country and the Drivelux insisting on routing over a portion of M25 (London…
  • Yes I'm still here thanks! I've been out of things for two years now. Start of 2019 my hip started deteriorating badly and I could barely get on a bike let alone ride any distance or even stand on the pegs. Hip was eventually done in September 2019…
  • Good spot, I didn't find that. I'm not that silly nowadays! Still a warning to others though
  • latest version on mine on W10 is 7.2.2.0 which I think updated a couple of times just before Xmas.
  • https://www.dodgetalk.com/threads/gps-passion-gone.658004/ Someone copying my posts, even the typo!! URL is still owned for a few months, guess the hosting has not been renewed, Boyd could be right as there was no announcement.
  • My interest is top end only. The new montana 700 series gets a good write-up in my view and has a good aerial for gps accuracy and swappable battery but it's out of your budget. I've been looking at upgrading my 600 series montana for a while but …
  • Yup, not looking good though unusual to just disappear without warninh. I've tried the IP addresses in the DNS record and the CNAME alias without joy. Part of the problem with online communities, people often just disappear if ill or worse. Let'…
  • 2021.30 across the pond now and still no sign of 2021.20 in the EU?? 2021.10 latest and we will be lucky to get two maps this year, let alone three. Something else to blame on Brexit? :-/
  • I wonder how on Earth Garmin tests these units prior to production runs. The 276CX ran like a slug, obvious the first and last time I used it. Now the next premium model the 700 series seems not bright enough unless the transflective screen is lit u…
  • I thought from your first post that there was a question mark over whether the 700 series takes third party maps? Apps for the new Android beasty seems uncertain on compatibility as well I'd guess? Early days yet to judge!
  • Unfortunately my approach to Bressner for the 7X discovered on Friday that they will not be getting any more of the 1000 nit 7X's from the States and had just sold the last one. The only similar but bigger one is only 700 nits so not much brighter t…
  • Battery endurance is one of my prime concerns as has been mentioned previously. Had been looking closely at industrial grade tablets such as https://www.bressner.co.uk/products/mobile/scorpion-7x-android But no rush to buy at present!
  • Looks everything (apart from buttons) the much maligned 276cx should have been
  • Video's wrong on this, you can use AA batteries in an adaptor. Looks interesting, but not sure the screen is quite big enough for I am looking for my ageing eyes.
  • What do the photos look like when viewed on your P.C.? If they are fuzzy then its a camera problem, if not its a screen problem.
  • Should be ok on amps as, at the end of the day, GPS will run on USB power anyway. You don't say what model Cadillac but https://www.cadillacforums.com/threads/2017-xt5-cigarette-lighter.940922/ suggests there likely is a socket
  • Ah the search for the holy grail! One caveat is Tom Tom Go is in a bit of a state of flux at present with the current release frozen for some time due to multiple complaints. It's just been restarted. https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/11…
  • Yup, updating now
  • Screen still up on my 3790 telling me 2020-30
  • Now you see it, now you don't Express told me it was there, plugged in and I'm up to date, guess they pulled it.
  • Top of the range Aventura https://www.twonav.com/en/gps/aventura-motor#technical Same here otherwise rugged Phone is being used more as I no longer trust the routing on my Drivesmart, Montana on the handlebars still as the 276CX has never reached …
  • Does look an interesting beast, especially with some buttons for the bikes, 5000mah battery life looks good though no glonass. Trans-reflective but how sunlight readable? Wish we could find out a bit more about it as I'm loath to spend several hund…
  • My 3790 has been brilliant considering it fell off my bike at 60mph soon after I got it and survived. I've kept it up to date but it no longer likes SD cards. Guess it's load a region or humane ending. Best Garmin device (in its day) I have had.
  • 2020.20 will not fit on my older 3790 without an SD card
  • Fully agree on the need for backups, agreed they are a waste of time but how you will wish you had should the need arise, and it will sooner or later.
  • Thanks everyone for all the help & support Personally I would not reply now if I knew the answer (which I don't) after that unnecessary sarcastic post The UID says it all!
  • Had similar setting up multi point routes for our club motorcycle runs. The two things I make sure of are: 1) All the waypoints are actually on the road, just off and the satnav may never find it. 2) Never put a waypoint on a junction, particular…
  • Interesting news! Not available in the EU yet, (third quarter).
  • True, however my impression was that we had dropped from four updates a year to three a while back. I haven't seen any change to that, so would have expected a release before now.
  • Both routes are motorways so that is not the answer as far as I can see. Probably just another bit of Garmin idiosyncrasy, like my similar problem in the Lake District last year, unless the shorter route regularly known for heavy traffic? that wou…
  • Lot of 'Stockholm Syndrome' I have seen in reviews, such as the 276CX which ran like a dog for me but some have spent their pennies on it so it must be wonderful. The phone apps still somewhat lack the polish of the dedicated GPS units for me, but …
  • Thanks Boyd, Catch22 at the moment, mystery virus at start of year that has completely upset my B.P. had blue lights flashing visit from parameds at one stage. Right hip has got to the stage where they want to replace it but they won't touch it un…
  • Just an update as illness and injury has prevented me from riding thus far this year. Did 85 miles on the BSA Super Rocket as first run last week. Montana on the bars with OSM mapping outward bound, all as expected. Used the AGM on the way back wit…
  • Probably will mirror the big event we had December 31, 1999 as we changed to January 1, 2000. No big deal, much like the end of the Aztec calendar. The reason 1999/2000 was not a big deal was the preparation that went into it, months and months …
  • Thanks Boyd. Have not had time to play last, couple of days, upgrading the home net and deep into ethernet cabling, extension aerials, IP addresses, subnets, an extra access point and a bridge at present, easy to lose complete days trying to get th…
  • I keep a pointer pen in my pocket, don't like touch screen and gloves.
  • Spoke to soon, I can wipe the smirk off my face! Connects and disconnects via the hub but cannot read the displayed drives. Back to the drawing board
  • Old thread this one but a resolution might interest someone. have been unable to disconnect the Montana from my windoze 10 USB 3.1 ports machine since I bought the 680T. USB 2.0 ports on the back don't work either. It's been OK on 'erself's older m…
  • Thanks for the heads-up, loading on mine
  • Good spot! been looking forward to this now we've had fibre run to my end of the village and my connection has gone from 5 meg to 52meg! BT could not find an excuse to charge me extra either!
  • Thanks for keeping us updated. For my use I see three problems with using a phone. Reading the screen in sunlight, not water proof and battery life. I have software that will work for me. Of the three reading it in sunlight is the one stopping me …
  • Yup Monterra X 2. First used one was off Ebay and was faulty, screen span full 360 degrees under a bit of vibration. Second used one I bought had hardly been used and was a nice machine in superb condition but the text on the Montana was bolder and…
  • Hi Boyd. Would have saved myself money on the phone in the short term, but still think that is where the future lies, just not yet. I have still not found an ideal solution and that's not for want of trying as your memory correctly dictates. New G…
  • Update as requested is that the Montana is still my GPS of choice on my vintage/classic bikes and my Drivelux 50 LMTD in the car. Been riding very little this winter due to a deteriorating hip, but the fancy AGM X2 phone has not displaced the resi…
  • Happy New Year All. Will be out on the 1961 BSA Super Rocket later this morning and the Montana will be on the bars. Re the Mac 32 bit and 64 bit problems mentioned earlier. I am still using an extensive software system I wrote over 20 years ago o…
  • Even more optimistic to assume that I will still be here in 2026. :)) Ditto
  • Back to topic, ran both the Montana with OSM maps and the AGM X2 smartphone with Tomtom mobile this time on the old BSA's handlebars, 115 miles in all in three segments . Problem with the OSM maps on the Montana is that, either the shortest route is…
  • Have tried it several times and on one occasion only it eventually came up with the email link to build the map. Have successfully downloaded an update thanks. Had a few more tries since, out of curiosity and none have worked, others reporting the…
