  • Update - finally heard from TT tech support regarding voices. Their response. "In regards to your query referring to the computer voices, I would like to tell you that since the software for the devices has been updated, the old voices are not comp…
  • The only 2 computer choices are Susan & Simon.
  • Do like the color scheme you mentioned. Any idea though on how to find the Dave voice?
  • No - do not see such a folder.
  • hmm, could not find "Dave" does he go by another name? Wonder if not available for XXL models. What about color schemes? Any good colorful one? I found a "Garmin" The default Tomtom is not all that great. Thx
  • thanks- will try that. what I dont get is that Tomtom raves about their choices of voices but I only see 2 that "do" text : Susan & Simon. And is it me or the system in that some (US) voices speak in yards vs feet ?
  • telemike - I chose the Tomtom for the same reason- customization & more info showing on the scree. I wonder if the garmin's show even less then the Magellans. I have not even looked at the Magellens. thn - Not sure how I added the POIs. after …
  • which magellan model is that? What other Magellans have this? Interesting. Magellan was not one I considered - had one before the DASH and not happy with it. The Dash actually showed the route choices on one map with the different color routes.
  • Thanks - I tried sending a support to Tomtom from my PC and was never able to reach the support page. Thankfully there is this forum take care!
  • What about the 1490T or the 1690 (is that not a "live" model) but the 1690 a bit out of my price range.
  • dhn - Thanks - are you referring to the POI editor (at: http://www.poieditor.com/) ? If so, then the ITN version (http://www.poieditor.com/poi_convert/ov2-to-itn/) ? On a side note my Dash had many great features. One was, when I chose a desti…
  • Thanks for the tip on : http://create.tomtom.com/manuals/create-your-own-content/ Unfortunately do not see any where were the XXL 540 is supported.
  • The units I am seeing in the stores are "demos" so I did not think to ask to take one outside. Plus, any given store does not have 2 models that I am interested in. Why do Garmin's of the world put out so many models ? - no need to comment. I…
  • thanks - what about ease of use? I played with one tonite in a store & I noticed when I was in Settings (the Garmin) and went to the next screen, and then the back arrow it took me to the beginning and not the previous page. That to me is an a…
  • Between Tomtom & Garmin - which is better with their maps & routing ?
  • Yes the xxl 540 is at the top of the list. do wonder how much better the 740 live is with trfc. I am already paying $30 month for unlimited data on my phn (so I can connect to web) so the monthly service I'd be paying on the 740 Live would be traf…
  • is there a XL 335s TM - or is that just the XL335TM ? What is the diff between a "s" and "TM" ? (other than life time trfc & mapes) Oh and with life time traffic are there are ads that pop up in the screen? I believe Garmin does that with th…
  • Thanks - my old Magellan had the separate suction cable - what a nuisance. Does this newer integrated traffic cable have to be expose- line of site? I ask as my current Dash GPS the antenna is in the unit itself, so I was able to hide the cable un…
  • So the XL 335 is not to be confused with the "Live" models where the traffic is free for 3 months then their is subscription fee? Any idea how I could tell if my new XL335 comes with the new RDBS v5 receiver? Meaning that what ever store I buy it…
  • thanks for all the input. Can't wait for the New Nuvi to come out.
  • thanks- Have you used both a Tom Tom & a Garmin? per the other post the Garmin 1690 is not out yet, so more curious about generalities (ease of use, mapping software, boot up times, reliability, etc). I played with the tom Tom 740 at Best Buy, …
  • here's a sample of a database I am using: B&N The Summit Birmingham "Summit Shopping Center 201 Summit Boulevard Suite 100 Birmingham, AL 35243 9-11 Every Day" 33.446994 -86.73121 (I am using excel (csv format) and each item in its own c…
  • thanks mec669. I am still playing around as well and still no luck.
  • Ahh, I just assumed their were in lat & long - I'll switch. The directions are lame in Magellan's manual, the POI web site not much better. Update: Well turns out the Lat & Long were not in the correct order. But I still get a Name, lat &am…
  • I figured out to save in csv - But now I get an error msg saying that : Name, Latitude & Longitude are required - yet all three are in the data base!
  • Tim -Thanks, My thoughts exactly and something I don't think the Magellan tech person mentioned this morning- at least not that I could understand. I discovered that difference when I found your comparison chart. Odd that I could not find the 860 e…
  • Yes, that is what I meant.
  • Thanks- I am leaning towards the 6000T. I am thinking it would be easier to use with multiple stops vs the 660. Plus on this site I see the 6000T has an altimiter. I did not notice that feature at Frys. Frys had the 660 and 3050. but not the 6000…
  • Thanks for the links - just what I am looking for. though the 660 allows for one "via" - can I store more as favorites, then as I travel along access the add'l favorite (as a stopping point)? The 2200T & 2500T are missing "vias" from the compa…
