  • +1 on POI Factory They have Red Light and Speed Camera POI's that are updated weekly. They also have alot of other POI's that you may find useful too.
  • Garmin Oregon Beta release 3.15 is available that is supposed to fix the shutoff problem. Changes made from version 3.13 to 3.15: Added LKS92 map datum Fixed potential shutdown with custom POIs with custom symbols Fixed issues with routing avoid…
  • They have redlight camera and speed camera locations. Note that these are locations of permanently mounted cameras on freeways, highways, streets and intersections. Not for mobile units. Updated weekly with additions and removals. http://www.poi-fa…
  • +1 on the POI Factory Redlight and Speed camera files. I've been using it for about 6 months and I think is an excellent addition to an automotive GPS. Definitely makes it more functional. Weekly updates too.
  • I've read on other forums where people have used other battery chargers with eneloops with no problems. I use the charger that came with the "kit" and it is not expensive. The batteries by the way perform better than any of the others that I've trie…
  • Sanyo eneloop batteries. http://www.eneloop.info/home/eneloop-user-guide.html
  • I've been using the Energizer e2 Lithium AA's in my digital camera's, remotes and my Oregon. They definitely outlast the alkalines. I just purchased some Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable's. I heard they are the best (at this time) in rechargeable batterie…
  • One of the applications that they added is named. "Sight 'N' Go". What is that and how does it work?
  • Connect it your computer. Open the Garmin folder and find the folder with the jpg's in it and delete the pictures you want to get rid of.
  • If they wanted the files to be distributed freely I would imagine that they would put them on the their website and say "FREE DOWNLOAD". You either pay or like you said, meet their requirement for the free download (for yourself). Go ahead and post …
  • It takes a lot of work to compile that information and from a lot of people. The files are not free as they ask for a $5-$20 donation to "access" the files. I paid for the download and I will not share it (give it to you or anyone else for free) onl…
  • Could have bought all of that stuff from craigslist.... :D
  • If I'm not mistaken (and I can very well be) the maps themselves cannot be loaded into a Garmin unit. Waypoints and routes can be created on your computer and those can be transferred to a Garmin unit.
  • Stay away from closeoutgenius.com. I initially placed my order for a Garmin Nuvi 255W with them a couple of months back. I get an email from them about 3 or 4 days later requesting me to call them to confirm my order. My first question to the compan…
  • According to the Mac GPS Pro website it does allow realtime on-screen display of your current location and speed. What I'm not sure about is what type of maps it can use. For me, I use only the topo maps. Not sure if it can use City Navigator maps. …
  • Not sure what you want to do with it, but there is a Mac GPS Pro available. You can check out the website to see if it's what you need. I have it for use with Topo maps and hiking. For that it works great. Not sure if it handles highways and roads. …
  • When I registered my Nuvi 255W it updated to 4.8. The one thing that changed was my home location. When I type in my address and actually drive to my home, it's off by about 300 ft. (it was spot on with the original firmware). I don't really need t…

  • My Oregon shows up when connected to the hub but the Nuvi doesn't. Garmin "recommends" hooking directly to a USB port.
  • Garmin recommends that you plug directly into a USB port on your computer not a USB Hub. Could also be a USB cable issue. Try different USB cables.
  • Have you turned it on and allowed it obtain satellite acquisition? This could take a little while but when you register it, you need to connect it to your computer. It should show the date of first satellite acquisition. IIRC Garmin goes by the firs…
  • Thanks for the info. I am going to try loading some of my Nat'l Geo. topo maps on to the sd card and see how that works. Yep, he did write Nat'l Geo. topo maps. Quit that, I thought I was dyslexic there for a second.
  • I just purchased my first GPS unit a couple of weeks ago. It is the Nuvi 255W. Works great and easy to use. I read also about the bad voice quality but I haven't experienced that problem. Sounds perfectly fine to me. Not experienced with the TomTom'…
  • I don't need all of the bells and whistles either. I did a lot of online reading and the Nuvi 255W looked to be the unit for me. I bought it, used it and loaded some Redlight/Speed Camera POI's and took off. Works great and does what I need it to do…
  • I thought Nat Geo maps couldn't be used in Garmin units. (?)
  • amazon.com: right now it's $211.99 with free shipping. You can buy the extras you need from there too if you need to. I bought the large beanbag and when I received it, well, it was just too big. I found a smaller mount on the 'bay' for $10 with fre…
  • When I hit the "Where AM I" it shows my address correctly but on the street map, it shows my house several houses down the street. I just used "My Location" and it my house shows up on the map correctly.
  • I bought the beanbag dashmount for my Nuvi 255W.... too big and bulky. I searched around and found this: (google it) i.Trek Garmin Nuvi Sticky Mount (IG-PSTARA) The base is only 2" x 1 1/8" in size. I had this blank space next to and below my ster…
  • Yes, I updated to City Navigator NT 2009.11 a couple of days ago and it still has the problem. I did put my location as my "Home" and that works fine. It's when I put in my address that it's off. It worked fine before the firmware upgrade.
  • I just received my Nuvi 255W a little over a week ago. After initial satellite acquisition I put it to immediate use. I entered my home address for "HOME" and took off. Used it all afternoon with no problems and it guided me right to my house. After…
  • Check out the new 24K Topos on MicroSD card. They are a lot more detailed than the standard TOPO USA maps. You might want to wait a a little while as supposedly Garmin will be releasing 24K Topo maps on DVD and it will come with new software called …
  • I just purchased a 255W and the map that it came with had a date of March 2008. Since I was allowed one free update I downloaded the 2009.1 update (it shows up as 2009.11 on the Nuvi). I thought it would have updated a major freeway that opened up c…
  • I logged onto the Garmin website with my Nuvi 255W connected and it still did not show the "free" update. It did show the update available to purchase. I contacted Garmin support again (talked to a Support Tech within 1 minute!) and they were able t…
  • I received my Nuvi 255W last week. I turned it on and received the first satellite acquisition yesterday afternoon. Last night I connected the Nuvi to my computer (Mac) and registered it. It did not show the date of first satellite acquisition (I fo…
  • Please excuse my ingnorance. But isn't MapSource/Roadtrip for use with City Navigator for use with roads, freeways, streets, etc.? My impression of BaseCamp would be that is to be used with Topo maps for off-road/hiking, outdoors activities.
  • Oh, yeah, I knew that when I bought it. It just seems like we should be able to get the 24K Topo with Basemap since we can't view our maps on a PC (I'm a Mac guy). If I had known that they were going to come out with this offering I would have waite…
  • New member here (and new GPS user as well). I received my Oregon 300 two days ago. I loaded a MicroSD Card with the 24K Topo map for my state and started playing with it. Inside the house, the screen looks fine. Outside in bright direct sunlight, w…
