The people from Tyre to Travel have now created MyRouteApp (www.myrouteapp.com), apparently as a kind of successor to Tyre to Travel. It is web-based (can be used with any browser). I created several routes with several variants with it and think that it is really, really good.
It has a free "basic" mode and a paid "gold" mode. In the free mode it works only with Google maps, in the paid mode it works also with HERE/Garmin maps.
The paid mode can be tried for free for one month - that is what I am going to do for the preparation of my upcoming 10-day trip from Arizona to California (and back). I will see how that works and let you know.
Thanks, guys. Shutting off and on again and then simulating a route brought the same result. Resetting and starting fresh seems - at least in simulation mode, at least right now - to have fixed it. If this holds, I will be happy during today's trip.
Thanks for the information. I was using the original Garmin cable that came with the device on a powered (and expensive) hub. Now I connected it directly to a computer - and charging works.
Apparently it was also charging before. When I switched the device on for the first time it warned me about the low battery and showed only a red battery symbol, now - connected directly to the computer - it shows that the battery is almost fully charged. This hopefully means that I can ignore the "not charging" warning in the future.
