Post370 volume  Fri Apr 13, 2007 2:38 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Hey Folks,
I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced similar problems with your 360/370. I was driving along yesterday and the voice seemed OK, not as loud as I'd like it to be, but not terrible, and as time went on, it just got softer and softer, to the point where it's like a whisper now.... on full volume! I've heard the 360's have volume problems, any fixes/workarounds?

thanks!

I haven't heard of cases where the Nuvi becomes quiet over time. That is indeed strange. I'd check to see if you have updated to the 3.60 firmware update. If not, install it and see if the audio improves. If it doesn't, try to reset the Nuvi. (Instructions on page 4 of the manual.) If resetting it doesn't work, try the function to clear all user information (also on the same page). This will delete all of your custom settings, favorites, etc so only use it as a last resort. If none of that works, contact Garmin.

I upgrade to 3.60 the first day I got it, and haven't experienced that problem or any volume issue at all.

I actually did the upgrade immediately as well. What's funny is that when I attach headphones to it, it's really loud, to the point where I have to turn it down to half volume, but then the speaker voice is again just so quiet. Even listening to mp3's, same deal, so I'm thinking it's a h/w issue at this point rather than a s/w issue.

Thanks again for the info guys.

Did you find anything out about the sound issue? I heard from someone today who has noticed something similar with their Garmin Zumo.

Hey Tim,
Funny you should ask. I actually went to Best Buy yesterday and compared my 370's sound side by side to a 350's. With my 370's volume on full blast, it was roughly equivalent of the 350's volume on about 1/3. Even the best buy salesman was commenting on how ridiculous that was. The 350 was about 3-4 times louder (at least).

So, I called Garmin today, told them what's up and they are doing an immediate RMA. I'm shipping my unit back tonight and as soon as they receive it, they'll overnight me a replacement.

My only concern is that I've read that the nuvi 360's/70's in general are a lot softer than the 350's. If that's the case, I'm going to have to return it and purchase a 350. I didn't get the 370 for the bluetooth, but I did like that it included the FM Transmitter and the Europe maps preloaded, but oh well Sad

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens with the replacement.

So I got my new unit after the RMA from Garmin -- MUCH louder. I still don't think it's quite as loud as the 350, but it definitely gets the job done now. I haven't updated it yet to 3.6, so it's still running 3.4. Perhaps I'll do that tonight.

So they sent you a new unit versus a fix/repair to the old unit?

I'm not sure if it's "new", it sure looks it, but it certainly isn't the same one I sent to them. With RMA, they basically gave me an address and a ups account number. I sent the package overnight using their account number (so it didn't cost me a dime) and when they received it, they sent me another one immediately.

Nice to know. Sounds like you got some great service from them. Glad you can hear your Nuvi now. Smile
