PostCary case for the 720  Wed Aug 01, 2007 4:10 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Does anyone know of a good case or small bag for carrying the 720 while traveling? Tomtom seems to have a nice case to protect the 720 on their accessories page but it's not yet available.

I suppose ideally I'm looking for something that will hold the unit itself and keep the screen safe with room for the car charger, the window mount, and a couple of small odds and ends. I'm hoping to find something over the next week or so.

I picked up a Case Logic Hard Drive case the other day. I had seen it in an Office Supply store for $20, but didn't get it then. I later saw it in a wholesale price club for $10, so I jumped on it. It's not really a snug fit, as it is a little long (or wide, depending on your perspective), but it has an elastic band to secure it fairly well. For me, though, it works OK, as I won't be carrying it anywhere, just tucking it in one of my storage pockets in the truck. Hope that helps.

I picked up an MP3 player case from Target for $9.99. It's about the perfect size in lenght/width, and a little thicker than the tomtom, but it works fine.

The TomTom website has a listing for a leather carrying case that they make for it, but apparently it's currently unavailable. I imagine it's either due to high demand, or that it hasn't actually yet made it to their warehouse. I'm also looking for the same thing.

The 720 specific case has been marked "temporarily unavailable" on their website since I first started looking at the 720. Makes me think they haven't received even their first shipment of them. I know I could use some other generic case, or other GPS case that will accommodate the 720, but I prefer an exact fit and am willing to pay a little more for the specific case.... should it ever become available.

The leather case showed up on the BestBuy website over the weekend. It's suppose to be in the stores but so far it's only in stock in one of the six stores sort of near me (Boston) but my guess is it will be in more stores soon. The price tag is $50 though, I think on the TT site it's listed as $40.

I havent bought one yet but plan too. In the interim I've been using a case i bought on ebay. Search for SuperSlim leather case for TOmTom 720 and you'll find it (but I don't see any listed today) it's a nice case for $20 but kind of a tight fit, and no padding.

Thanks droh.
$50 is getting a bit steep.
Of course they'll eventually start showing up on eBay maybe for a little less.

A good hard shell case is the Pelican 1020 Micro Case Series.
It's waterproof and available in colours for $22.

Thanks for the info from the Soft Case forum.
What was the name/model of the camera case you found at Best Buy?
I want to check it out.

Its the Lowepro Digital Camera Bag (model #Rezo 50)

It won't fit in the other model numbers, but this one fits like a glove. It also give you a little pocket on the front for SD cards, Tylenol, etc. Smile

David, is it strong enough to protect the TT from damage if you should drop it?

Andy....

Best Buy has it listed for $20.99 cdn. FutureShop has it for $28.99. Interesting price difference since BB owns FS! Anyway, I may pick one up in the next couple of days since the plastic holder for the unit just doesn't cut it.
