Post720 & Battery Life  Tue Sep 11, 2007 2:55 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I basically use the 720 in the car with the battery because I use the outlet in the car for another device. I just charge the 720 up at night when I come home. Am I hurting the long term lifespan of the battery by consistently running the battery down rather than just keeping it plugged in all of the time?

Probably not significantly. Batteries used to be more susceptible to those types of things than they are now. You might want to avoid running it all the way dead, but otherwise it shouldn't be an issue.

Yes, from what I've read, Li-ion batteries are hardly susceptible to memory-effect, and are quite good at keeping their charge-ability.

Of course, the new TomTom devices don't use Li-ion batteries...

According to page 70 of the 720's user manual, they do indeed us Li-Ion batteries.

Is the only way to charge the 720 either via the USB dock or while driving through the lighter adapter? I'm going on a long roadtrip and am not taking a laptop with me, so I won't be able to use the dock. Would be good to have an AC charger, does one exist? Thanks.
