PostXULRUNNER.exe Has Encountered a Problem  Mon Sep 17, 2007 3:38 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Has anyone experienced the Windows XP error message...

xulrunner.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close...?

I get it when I try to backup my 720 using HOME 2. All that TomTom has suggested so far, which has taken a while even for a reply, is that I should make sure that my Bluetooth is disabled to avoid this message until a revision is available. I have advised them that my Bluetooth was not enabled and I still get this message every time that I attempt a backup, but unfortunately, it takes TomTom support decades to respond.

This is my production work machine, which runs a ton of applications, non of which cause me any problems except HOME 2.

XULRUNNER, from my Google searches, is apparently a Mozilla file, which I guess TomTom incorporates in its product as well.

Thanks all...

Yes, if you use the search button at the top center of the forum section (not the top right of the site) you will find a few other people who have seen that.

Keep in mind that I think TomTom HOME 2 is still beta.

Just to be sure (not that I don't believe you) when you go to the menu, change preferences, and flip a few pages the icon the button does not have an X through it and says "Enable Bluetooth". This is the indication that Bluetooth is currently disabled. If the button has a red X over it and says 'Disable Bluetooth' then that indicates Bluetooth is currently active. I often get that backwards.

What worked for most people however was to delete the Bluetooth pairing, instead of just disabling Bluetooth. Menu, page 2, Manage Phones, and then delete the pairing of your phone.

I think I had it backwards as well. I think I just disabled it now and will try HOME 2 again. I see the Manage Phones too and will go for broke and dump that as well, just to get a ground zero on this test. Wish me luck. I guess TT doesn't do much of a beta before they release a new version of HOME.

I did try installing HOME 2 on another computer though and that other computer seems to have worked fine. At least with no xulrunner errors when I backed up.

In spite of all that, the error continues...

LOL... And very well deserving of the title BETA.

I don't think they disclose it as a beta though.

I recall there was a fairly stern warning that it was beta, only to be used by experienced users, that it could cause system failures, etc and that it would only be available to a small window of people/time.

Well, if that was true once upon a time, its not true any more. As far as I can tell, HOME 2 is an automatic upgrade to HOME, if you have a compatible device. I don't remember that I had a choice, however, I could be mistaken.

I'm still running 1.5 and 1.6 under a couple of different computers and I haven't been prompted to upgrade. I've connected to each version with a ONE 2nd Edition, ONE XL, 510, DUO, and 720, but none have asked me to upgrade. Perhaps they are just issuing them out as lottery.

That's interesting, because I am certainly NOT asking for the upgrade and I have installed 1.5 two or three times since my purchase and was prompted for the upgrade on each of them.

I have never been too lucky with the lottery either...

When I first got my unit last week, I seem to remember being offered an upgrade to both the TomTom software and the desktop software. Downloading both caused an initial problem of some settings being wiped out but eventually got it worked out.

Answering myself <g>

From TomTom support today:

-----------------

First completely exit out of HOME by closing the window then right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting Exit. Then go to C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\xul\plugins\emulator\navcore and delete all the files there. If you have Vista, also go to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\RANDOMSTRING\emulator and delete the navcore directory if there is any there. Then open HOME again and click Operate My GO. A emulator DLL will be downloaded that will prevent this feature from crashing.

This fix is for the crash when using the Operate My GO feature, and may not help for the crash when downloading Map Share. That should be fixed when HOME 2.1 is released October 25.

-----------------------

Fix for Operate My Go worked for me.

PostSimilar problem with TomTom GO 920  Sun Nov 18, 2007 6:49 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I had a similar problem with my TomTom GO 920's Home 2 after it downloaded an update. I just uninstalled Home 2, rebooted the computer, downloaded the latest version from TomTom's website, and installed it again. The error went away, and it seems to be working fine so far.

On www.tomtom.com/home, it looks like there are two TomTom HOME downloads. It's a little confusing since one download is for "TomTom GO *"
and the other is for "TomTom GO & GO 300" The asterisk means: Except for TomTom GO and GO300.

I guess there was a separate product that was called: TomTom GO (without any number after it).

I have a Tomtom One 3rd edition and had the xulrunner.exe problem. Windows would say that it was closing the program and was looking for solutions - which there wasn't any. I am using Windows Vista. I found a solution --- Navigate to the folder C:/Program Files/TomTom HOME 2 --- Right click on the file TomTomHOME.exe and click on properties. Click on the "Compatibility" tab. Put a check mark next to "Run this program as an administrator". Click on Apply, then OK and try to run TomTom HOME again. I wasn't able to open TomTom HOME at all before. I'd always get the xulrunner.exe error, but I can run it now. I hope this helps everyone with this same problem.

When it happened with my TT 720 while updating software, I came to conclusion that at some point WINDOWS OS has lost TT 720 as USB mounted mass storage device...
It took a while to fix the problem but since that I ought to switch ‘ON’ TT before I put it on the dock in order to get ‘yellow screen’
