1- Fire up both programs
2- In GE be sure that the ROADS option is checked (bottom left). This is very important, you miss this then nothing works.
3- Make a route in GE (Find the places, Right click, Navigate From or To...)
4- GE will present the route with its waypoints (yellow 'reversed' raindrops with 2 black bars)
5- Right click on each , choose 'COPY' - the order you do that is the order they will appear in TYRE. But you can change this in Tyre if you wish: move up , down, turn it into a destination
6- Go to TYRE program, then save the .ITN file into TomTom's ITN folder
7- In TomTom, choose Itinary menu, OPTIONS, load the file you created ... easy right ?
NOTE:
1- You can make you own extra waypoints, but be carefull about placing the 'Placemark' (waypoint). Put it on the wrong side of the road, then TomTom will ask you to U-turn or does all kind of weird navigation. Enlarge the screen if you can. Be sure to name it for easier identification.
2- Waypoint navigation is very restrictive, you miss one, you get nagged to death, worse than your life long companion passenger.
You have to delete it, or mark as viewed ... or use a program named SkipWaypoint (on Webazar.org). Anyway I don't like to touch the GPS while driving, so I don't use Itinaries very often.TomTom 720 users might have problem installing 3rd party software like SkipWayPoints. I don't know because I don't have a 720.
I just wanted to give thx 1nce again on this post alone!!!
I am going to try this with my 910 and hope it works
question;
I know the GO910 does not need internet access but does the laptop that i am using need to be connected while trying to use this setup?
I will be using this while i am working to plan my 40+ stops and i want to do it in the best order.
thx again for the GREAT HELP!!!!
I absolutely love Tyre. In fact, I think TomTom should buy licensing rights to this software and distribute it with each of their TomTom models. I wish I knew about this when I first bought mine. I use itineraries all the time, and it's sometimes a pain to punch in 30 addresses using the touch screen method of CITY > STREET > ADDRESS, when I can just type (or copy and paste) an entire address line and let Google interpret the address in whatever format it's in and find the coordinates.
Some things I wish were improved:
1) Give users the option to switch from metric to imperial/USCU. I can live with distance being calculated as kilometers, but I really prefer miles.
2) Allow users to enable/disable auto-add-to-itinerary when they type in and address and press enter. This is one of two things I like about Microsoft Streets & Trips. In Tyre, you currently have to type in the address, press enter, and click "add to itinerary". Would be nice to be able skip the mouse part.
3) This is tough, but add itinerary optimization. I've seen a few other Google Maps API scripts make route optimizations (but it places a lot of demand on Google Maps and takes a while), and this is the other thing I like about Microsoft Streets & Trips (it optimizes itineraries very efficiently).
4) Allow multiple waypoint/destination changes. On the main Tyre screen when you have a list, you can SHIFT > SELECT to select multiple waypoints, but it doesn't allow you to change them to destinations all at once, you have to do it one by one.
5) Similar to #4, it would be nice to have an option to select the default point setting (waypoint visited, waypoint to visit, destination visited, destination to visit). I prefer setting all mine to destination to visit. Waypoints work nice because you can see all the stops on one overview map, but TomTom doesn't treat waypoints the same as destinations, so it's easy for me to skip an address I should have stopped at. So it would be nice to have the default changeable.

Some good ideas. I'd send them to Jan who is the tool's creator. His email, according to the Tyre site is tomtomrider@janboersma.nl.
The other thing that I think is pretty nifty with Tyre is that it automatically loads a link into TomTom Home. Not a big ground-breaking deal, but it's pretty nice to be able to click to the tool directly from Home.
Tyre was one of the main reasons I chose TomTom -- being able to plan my itineraries on a PC ahead of time was very important to me - and Tyre allows you to do it for free.
Now Google maps has fully signed up with Tele-Atlas - makes for an interesting matching.
