Postother mount options for nuvi 360?  Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:14 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I’m getting close to buying a 360 for my parents, although I want to make certain I can get them a mount they’re happy with. I know the windshield mount won’t go over big (especially since they have a deep dashboard - mercury sable).

How decent is the bean bag mount? Is that item impossible to get now? Am I correct in that you need to get not only the bean bag but also the separate mounting bracket?

I’ve also seen one place that had a vent mount – does anyone here have experience with that type?

They aren’t looking to hard mount it and the unit would probably go back and forth between two vehicle.

thanks for any input,

The bean bag mounts are not too bad unless you are a super aggressive driver or drive on really rough roads. In most cases they work well and rarely move much at all.

There are hard mounts available to affix the mount directly to the top of the dash instead of the windshield. This is what is often used in California and Minnesota where windshield mounts are illegal.

If "hard" mounting to the dash (or with a bean bag approach) you could get two mounts, one for each vehicle, and then move the GPS between each device. This can be handy even if you are using windshield mounts as you can purchase additional power cords and not have to carry those around too when moving the device between vehicles.

I haven't used many of the third party mounting systems such as the vent mounts.

PostVent mount for Nuvi  Tue Dec 05, 2006 1:40 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I bought a vent mount and can't live without it. Go on Ebay and search for nuvi vent mount. There are lots of auctions, I bought mine from mountguys.com, usually ends up being $20 shipped give or take a few bucks. I never even tried the factory ball mount - it looked cheesy to me. I'll probably buy a motorcycle mount for my 360 before the spring rolls around.

If you spent the money for the GPS, another $20 or so makes it perfect. This is the type of mount Garmin should have included with the unit to begin with.
