I was wondering the same thing. I've been running 6.554 without much trouble.

No problems here on 6.554, but I haven't used the USB port either. I keep thinking we'll see some more updates since there's been a few Home releases and new maps released. Wishful thinking I guess.

No issues with 6.554 either. I've given up messing with this anymore until they give us 7, which now seems like it may never happen so I guess we never get new maps. Mad

I don't have any news on that. It doesn't look likely.

Has anyone else bitched to tomtom about the lack of navcore 7 yet? If not, please send them an email inquiring about that - maybe enough response and they will actually do something for us.

I sent them a note about it last week.

The response does not sound promising...

Quote:
At this time we have no word on when or if an update will be released for the Eclipse unit. At this time the unit would not be able to use the map share feature. This update may however become available in the future. We would suggest that you watch for any updates on this question on the web site. Also if you get the news letter from us you should receive a communication in it to say that it is available, if it becomes available

I will be pretty upset if they, essentially, end of life the AVN2210p already. How long has it been on the market?

I think it is strange too that the new mkii comes with the same older software...

Seems like most of the time I talk to TomTom about the AVN2210p their answer is "I don't know, ask Eclipse" and whenever I talk to Eclipse they say "I don't know, ask TomTom".

Which is silly since the upgrade is 99% tomtom. Too bad not enough people own one of these or I'd smell class action.

hmmm... maybe a few more of these on the market will increase the chances of getting some software updates.

I agree Tim.

So much so that I've decided to give Tomttom the elbow. Tech support is non-existant, upgrade to version 7 will never happen. I'm sick of being passed from Tomtom to Fujitsu with nothing but excuses.

There was so much potential with the AVN2210P but their attitude has wasted the lead that they had, in my opinion.

Here I would like to say thank you to you and the members of the forum who helped with advice and information.

For the record, I now have a Pioneer HD3BT (Z2 in the USA).

Thanks again guys. Smile

just wondering what you would advise something selecting this unit in a new car. stay clear or go with it. I only want handsfree for calls in & out. I also do voice dialling. My incoming calls are only short usually from work when they want an answer or need to let me know something.

The Gps is only for if I want to go into an area that I do not know.
I'm not sure as yet which model the dealer would be putting in (2210 or 2227) toyota car

There is no voice dialing with this - unless you get it real cheap I'd avoid it. At this point it is a dead-end product.

Funny how they sent the email saying new maps are available for ALL units.

I just purchased a brand new 2008 Toyota Urbanrunner which features the AVN 2210 standard. Is there any method I can use to determine if this is the mkI or mkII? The LED's appear to be the same color as the rest of the dashboard (yellow), not the usual red or blue.

My personal feeling is that while it is functional as a deck and navigation device, it excels at neither. I won't be throwing out my garmin anytime soon.

The basic hardware seems to be alright, but the software seems to be just one update from excellence. Also, it takes far too many button pushes to reach the appropriate options.

The original application version was 6.553 and I have since updated to 6.554. I don't believe I've updated the maps and my current version is 675.1409.

I am picking up a new toyota yaris in a couple of days & the pictures of the unit in australia show the yellow lights so thats why I have become confused which model it actually is . Glad to see that someone else has mentioned the yellow lights. Iasked toyota the model & all they could give me is a toyota part number. The mp3 & bluetooth symbols are down the bottom of the surround & not on the right side like I have seen.

I'm really disappointed seeing Toyota using these in their cars and I hope they are just not being told the full story on future updates possibly not coming. You'd really think if Tomtom/Eclipse are going to partner with Toyota and put them in their vehicles then they would want people being able to buy maps and addons - no upgrades equals no more money for them either.

toyota are listing it as a geniune part, whether installed in car or added as an option so they have to cover it under warranty. I see that tom tom has an update section for toyota.

In australia they have just started putting them in so I can't see toyota backing them if there are problems with the unit. They also state map updates are available through tom tom home.

Update section, but same as the eclipse since they are all the same unit - which means no new maps for now. I went out to the car to grab mine just to check for updates and still nothing - funny how on the Home program it has the flashing Upgrade to Home 2.2*. Of course the * states The Tomtom eclipse and Toyota aren't supported yet.

well I picked up my toyota today with the eclispe installed. Well it sits out from the dash what a shame. I had read it sit out but I didn't realise it would sit out so much. However once the tom tom comes on you don't notice it so much.
My lights are yellow which matches the rest of my controls. My blackberry 8310 paired perfectly & my phone book entries copied fine. With data I set it as blackberry 8110 and it accepted the phone. I do not have a data bundle with my phone but it looked like it was going through the setup fine. Funny that, tom tom told me the unit would not pair with my phone at all . I tried the bluetooth handsfree & telphoned someone & they could hear me just fine actually they told me turning the volume down was even better. Trouble is once doing that you have turn up the volume again to hear the instructions from tom tom. Iam sure I will have fun when I have a change to have a good play with in.

I have found that the toyota unit is listed under the product code TSN400 which is the one with the yellow lights.

My DUO is back to doing strange things while it is docked. A few weeks ago something on the SD card went corrupt... when I mounted the SD card it didn't see any files. So I formatted the card and restored from a backup. All went well for about a week.

Now, whenever I start the car the DUO goes through a full boot, from the white screen with the yellow progress bar that rarely appears, then the TomTom "black" logo with the drums sound, and then the normal boot. Everything else, including shutdown, appears normal.

Mine had been working fine and then the other day somehow reset itself (the radio part). I'm surprised no one has filed a class action on this yet.

That's part of the problem - they still shouldn't make a device they don't intend to update. At least do something so we can use new maps

Well, I got it running again. Made a backup of the map folder, formatted the SD card, put the map back on, let HOME reinstall the application and voices, then ran the clear flash tool--- back in business with a more normal operation.

PostUpdated app software / firmware!  Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:24 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I have the Toyota TNS400.
I have had problems with the unit since day one. Yesterday my toyota paid its weekly visit to the dealer to have another attempt to resolve the problems with the TNS400 - this time I was told "we have some new software" - I was expecting a patch or something, and didn't really expect it to resolve the issues. Anyway, now I have the car back I have found that the dealer has updated the App software to version 7.830 and the map version (Western Europe) to 720.1802!!!!
So far it seems fine - even map share and the UK speed camera's are working!
Question is, how do I suck the firmware out and let you guys try it??

Yes - I had to update to ver 2.3 to get the tomtom recognised following the dealer's update.

Then you should be able to use the 'copy to my computer' function, and select the application. That will make a nice archive of it on your computer. It should also tell you where on your computer that archive was created.

I had yet another issue today, and yet another solution too. The DUO wouldn't recognize that it was docked. The voice instructions were playing over its little internal speaker and it wouldn't charge. No amount of removing, replacing, or restarting the car would fix it. Finally I took the only tool I had a the time, a pocket knife, and scraped the contacts on the back of the DUO. Working fine again.

Hi Rob,

I'll send it on - the file is about 10MB so if you inbox has a limit it may bounce.

Hi!

I´m really sorry for jumping in like this, but im desperate. You can see by the time Im doing this post Confused I have the TNS400 that came with the Toyota Yaris last week and the TomTom was not receiving any information from the card.

I was not able to do any backup either. Even manually it was giving me errors while doing the file transfer..

I had to format the card without any backup.

I installed the Software again from TomTom Home 2 (version 6), and it´s working again. But now I dont have any maps Confused

It would be nice if TomTom included in the box a Cd with the maps. Now what can I do?

daveaddy, were can I get the same software and maps that you got?

Im from Portugal Btw.

Thank you and sorry once again.

Cheers

Maps are locked to the unique device they were designed for. So your only option is to contact TomTom, plead your case, and ask if they will give you a new map.

I all ready contact TomTom, and they told me to go to Toyota for them to swap the unit.

I dont know why they complicate so much. I just need the map. In the box comes a black card with the product code. I think it was done for this cases, when you just need the original map.

daveaddy, has the same unit as me, Im sure is software and maps will work in my unit. If he could share it would be nice.

His maps will not work, they are locked to the device. That would be stealing which we don't allow here and take very seriously. You need to resolve it with TomTom/Toyota.

Just recently installed the AVN2210P here in Australia... works like a charm and no rebooting issues for official updates. Software that came with the device was 6.551 and the manufacture date was Sept 2007. Didn't have any rebooting issues but updated to 6.554 anyway and is still ok.

Tried an 'emulated' version of Navcore 8 (Google search if interested...) on the device but there were two issues; first it was missing the menu system for Radio/CD/USB functions on the device when docked which is expcected and second, it was rebooting constantly when docked to the Eclipse unit (but was ok when it was used in standalone.)

Would it be possible for me to PM someone to try daveaddy's Navcore 7? I'm assuming the Radio/CD/USB menus are intact as it was a semi-official update?

I also have an AVN2210P. It was professionally installed by Circuit city with all the options. I also have the rebooting issue and Tomtom simply refuses to help me because the hardware was manufactured by Fujitsu/Eclipse. However, the problem I'm having is typical of problems I've had with PDA Navigator versions also by TomTom.

If anyone knows of a class action lawsuit on this product, please reply and let me know. I'll sign-up in a heartbeat. I've got a useless gps in my dashboard.

If anyone knows how to get in touch with someone at Eclipse for customer service, I'd love to get the info. The only numbers I found don't go anywhere.

Thanks
Mike
