Posttraffic antenna worth it? in Los Angeles especially?  Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:06 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Hey all,
Simple question. For anyone out there that uses the tomtom traffic antenna in Los Angeles, does it actually seem to help speed up your commute? With the freeways usually packed and tons of construction and blockages on surface streets, I wonder if it will really make a difference.

Thanks!

I can't speak for Los Angeles but I'm using my new 910 here in New York and I'm getting the TomTom Traffic service (the subscription one that uses your cell phone for a data connection) for free (don't know how.) I'm not that impressed with it. You see little indicators that there's a delay but there's not much other information is provided. Listening to a good drive-time radio station keeps you much more informed, IMHO. I'll continue to play with it as long as it's free.

prompterbob, I still haven't figured out exactly what/how you are getting... so I'm not sure I'd compare it to the subscribed service.

Well I turn on TT Traffic and I get a steady stream of updated traffic info on my route. I have the bar on the right side of the screen where the traffic delay info is displayed. The voice also announces the delays. Does that sound like the subscription service?

Yes, but it may not represent the quality and completeness of the data you would get from the paid service.

I think I might just bite the bullet, get it, and see how well it works in Los Angeles. Will follow up with some comments once I get it.

Hi- How did it work out? I'm about to buy a tomtom GPS. I have a Nuvi 285W and I'm not too happy with it. And MSN doesn't seem to have much traffic info- always says there is no traffic!

Have used both the reciver and the Plus Services data traffic services in LA area - and they both work fairly good. And there is always a lot of traffic to route around down there....
