Has anyone seen the 260W?

Has it started shipping?

Do you think the prices will drop?

It has just started shipping. As usual, prices will be a bit high at first but you can probably find it in the low 300's.

crutchfield.com has it instock, but for $399, not worth the extra $130 for TTS compared to the 250W Rolling Eyes

I have to agree with you.
Nuvi 2xxW version seems to come w/ SiRF chipset only. I don't know if 260W will come w/ MTK.

By comparison, SiRF (even w/ chipset firmware version 3.0) on W-version really took much longer time to acquire Satallite signal. (Cold Start) Signal strength/ Accuracy is not as strong as MTK.

This MTK superiority is NOT just base on my own testing, but you can read review here..

Notice MTK's older chipset still beat SIRF. New MTK on Nuvi 260 is the newest 3xxx series. (just hope they put the MTK on the wide version)

I just ordered a Garmin 260W from PC Nation for $304. The best price I could find. It's backordered but should be shipped shortly.

I am actually playing w/ one for 2nd days. (from our engineer team)
GPS SW version 3.00s (SiRF III) -
Serial Number 19U00xxxx
Unit ID: 33958xxxxx
Firmware version 2.9 ( same as Nuvi 200W )
FS_image.Ver: 006-D0564-04

I am little disappointed as its performance is exactly same as 200W .

Cold Start took painfully little over 2 min- Two testing only. (MTK 260 usually in 1 min)
I don't think Garmin put QuickFixII in version 2.9 yet.
Screen is as bright and as sharp as 200W and even at brightness set at 20% (day mode), it is still very very readable in sunny day.
And Volume is really loud.

Nuvi 260W still tends to lock on the the nearby road. ( like most of GPS out there )

I may be sucker for MTK 2.60m as of today, but this is according to newest firmware version in comparison to SirF 3.00s
I understand MTK is a cheaper chip (for manufacture) but I think it is indeed better than Sirf, at least in NUVI case.

I have never play w/ 7xx or 8xx series, but I think w/ new QuickFix II, you might want to spend a little more on 7xx OR go back to MTK 260.

I just got a Nuvi 260 from Amazon (delivered March 17), and it has the MTK chip.

Isn't the 260W going to be basically completely obsoleted by the 255W?
