Problems downloading North American Map 710 from TT Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:48 pm
I have the free 30-day map guarantee, so I am on my 4th trying to download the 1.7 gig North American Map 710 file, when it is about finished it displays "Internal Server Error" - so I guess TomTom servers are having problems? Plus TTH 2 freezes and full of glitches, I even did a clean install twice. I have Windows XP/SP2 with 4 gigs of ram and 500 gig of HD space on a Dell XPS 720.
I have updated all the software on TTH 2 and 720 with 7.221. I've had it for only a day and it's been frustrating to say the least...especially all the wasted time downloading the map, it is so slow, I even have a 7 meg download
I am thinking about going back to Garmin, even though I don't want to.

Tomtom's servers are unreliable and slow at the best of time. Your experience is not unique. Have never experienced TomTom home freezing though it could stand to have an upgrade to make it more user friendly in some areas.
Since you apparently have downloaded the map (it will be found in the download directory by default) you can try to go to Add Maps in TomTom home. It should find the map and you can click 'add' to try to get it to install....perhaps the tomtom server will be operating properly in order to allow for the activation file to be created (which 'locks' the map to a specific device) and install the map.
You do have an account on TomTom's site, I presume.
thanks for the reply, i definitely have an account. my first experience into TomTom has been quite disappointing so far with the software and their servers.
I did check lastnight when it downloaded and even this morning on folders located on my HD, nothing. I probably wasted a total of 4-5 hours with this...it's going back to Sam's Club tomorrow for a Garmin Nuvi 260 with TTS
Hey armored_saint....... see my own thread on this issue. Just tried downloading this morning, and at least so far the Guam map downloaded properly...... the activation .cab file is 216 bytes instead of 0 bytes (which is apparently the cause of this error).
I'm waiting on the North American maps to download right now, but it seems like a good sign.
