Are you giving it time to actually load the update? When you disconnect from webupdater (and "Safely Remove Hardware". Don't just unplug it) the software THEN starts loading. 2.6 is fairly large and takes two or three minutes to finish loading. If you continue to have a problem AND are unable to reconnect to Webupdater, I believe the hard reset is pushing power on for about 8 seconds (or is it to right, lock for 8 seconds. . . Someone help me there. Unlike the tt's, I've never had to reset.) Anyway, once back running, go back to webupdater.

yeah, well i did safely remove it and it started loading everything for a few secs and then it went black and i thought i should just turn it on.
I guess i turned it off? and cut the updating process?
I didn't realize it took so long.

What can i do to fix this?

Thanks for your help.

try using webupdater and maybe do the whole thing again. It does take a while, that is for sure, but once it is loaded correctly, it's good to go

If the hard reset does not work (i.e., you can't connect to do the webupdater) it is likely that you interrupted the process before it completed. I think you're going to need to contact Garmin tech support. It's possible you'll need to send them your unit so they can reload the software but they'll be able to tell you for sure.

I've read a top problem with the update process happens as a result of not properly safely disconnecting the garmin from the usb port which is possibly what happened here. I updated two 760's from 2.5 to 2.6 using the same software you did (i.e., not the webupdater) and both upgraded successfully...so I don't think the software was the problem.

If you do have to send it in, it will be frustrating. But, in the long run they'll be able to fix it.

good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me tonight on the Nuvi 750. Made sure to safely remove hardware. I used the WebUpdater and everything appeared to work fine. After disconnecting and powering on the unit it said "Loading software" for a little over a minute and then the screen went dark. Now it will not go past the second screen before powering off. Contacted Garmin TS and they are cross shipping me a new unit. They say this one is dead.

Cool Just got off the phone with Garmin Tech Support and this is a "known problem" with the Web Updater.........Nothing they can do but replace your unit. They gave me an RMA number to send it in and they will send me a new one.

They were very helpful but this is also very frustrating since this is a brand new unit!

DO NOT USE THE WEB UPDATER AT THIS TIME! That's what Garmin is saying. They also said to wait 2 months until they correct the web updater before trying again.

They should post a Warning on their web site in my opinion!

Do you know what version number of WebUpdater you were using and was it Mac or PC?

I've been backing up the following files from my Garmin Nuvi 750 to my PC each month and would simply restore them to the Garmin if something went wrong:

clm.nvm
GarminDevice.xml
GUPDATE.GCD
GPX\Current.gpx

These are the only files which change with each update. If the machine is ever locked, I would connect via the USB port and restore all of these files.

In addition, on the taskar there is an icon named: "Safely Remove Hardware." Click on this icon and close the directories on the Garmin BEFORE disconnecting the USB cable. If you do not do this, it is highly likely you will damage one of these key files.

Only problem is that after the WebUpdater finished, the PC no longer recognizes the device so you can't restore anything.

I'll keep your advice in mind when I get my Nuvi 750 back from Garmin....

That's not correct. The usb port is still being recognized as having the nuvi and it's directories available. "SAFELY REMOVE" every time. You may not create any issues every time by not doing so, but you sometimes may. Don't take chances. If you have created an issue by improperly unmounting the device, it will usually show up as a "checksum" error in the diagnostics.

I expect Garmin will be quite helpful. By the way, did you ever register your device? Makes it less of a headache when you need to contact them. In Europe:

I have the same exact problem. Contacted Garmin twice already. First tech thought it was a battery issue and asked me to fully charge the device. Second tech said there was nothing they can do over the phone and wanted me to return back to where it was purchased (>15 days of purchase). I notified them that I have seen this issue on message boards and they said that they have never heard of this issue. Their engineers would have notified them already.

Rolling Eyes

Any new info on this?

I just used WebUpdater 2.4.1 with XP2 and it worked just fine!! I only used it to check for updates as I already have 2.6. I down loaded a couple of language updates but everything works OK. I would reinforce an earlier post that it takes a L O N G time to transfer an op system update like 2.6 and if you cut it of in the middle I think you would have major problems. Just imaging shutting down your PC half way through an installation!!
Regards,

Sorry, I did exactly as "BubbRubb" below with the same results.

As stated before, Garmin Tech Support told me that "they have seem this problem with the WebUpdater before and to wait a couple of months before using the WebUpdater again....they will fix the bug in it (w/Nuvi 750's) by then".

I returned my 750 to Garmin and got it back within a week. I'm leary of doing any updates right now Sad

Hi All,

I used the WebUpdater to update my Nuvi750 from Ver2.50 to 2.60. When finished I couldn't boot up because it said SYSTEM FILES MISSING. I called Garmin Tech support and they asked if I had hi-speed internet ( I DO) they then had me go to a website , there they then gave me a code to put into my pc and connected my computer to theirs. I then plugged my Nuvi into my computer. The tech support then proceded to fix my Nuvi over the inernet. He took out some files added some files in my Nuvi and then updated my nuvi to 2.60 and every thing works great now.

My point is, call garmin tech support and see if they can help!!!! They have been great about all my calls over the last 4 years.

GIVE THE GARMIN TECH SUPPORT A CHANCE !!!!

They are the best tech support I have ever come across for anything. !!!!!!!
