Tim.

There seems to be a whole series of Street Pilots and the same with Nuvi. Nuvi seems to be something that has appeared over the last year or 2 and the Street Pilots have been around longer. Just wondering what the deal was with that.

Correct, there is a line that are called StreetPilots which encompass a variety of devices from the old original StreetPilot through the newest such as the c500 series. There is also a Nuvi series which started a couple of years after the StreetPilot series.

The features vary to a wide degree, there are some StreetPilot devices that have more features than some Nuvi devices and some Nuvi devices that have more features than some StreetPilot devices. The Nuvi devices are "thin", but other than that you can't compare the lines in a general sense without identifying specific models.

Tim
I just sent a question on this to the general section but probably should have asked you here.
The models I'm comparing are StreetPilot c510 v Nuvi 260. I know that the c510 has a longer batery life and two speakers. I'm told that it also has extra advantages in adding customised POIs that cannot be done on the Nuvi 260. I read that the Nuvi 260 is a more recent release and has 512 mb ROM and the c510 has 256 RAM ( I think.) It would seem that the Nuvi 260 has more info already stored.
My questions concern screen visibility, reception of signal, accuracy and storage capacity. I'm not concerned about storing photos.
One comment on the reviews of c510 is that the voice message is often too late for the turn. I've also experienced this "late call" to turn particularly when turns are close together. The"recalculate" feature is also a bit slow in that I had already passed the road to which I was being "recalculated".Is it the same with Nuvi 260? (Price offered for both units is the same.)

I'm prejudiced, but I love my 260... I wouldn't trade it for any of the higher priced ones with all the (in my opinion) unnecessary bells and whistles. Mine does what I want and that is get me where I"m going when I don't know the area. It guided me all the way from Colorado to SW Florida (2200 miles) in early January without a hitch, even though I had to set up a few waypoints to make it go the route I wanted for the first part of the trip. It also acquires a signal quickly, usually in under a minute, and never lost the signal during that 2200 mile trip, including a 1/3 mile tunnel.

To answer one other point... The Nuvi does take custom POI's... I have 10 mb worth on mine at the moment. And for me the added portability is just really handy.

I can't say anything about the other one, as my 260 is the only one I've ever owned.
