I tried to edit a POI I added to my TT 720 yesterday. When prompted to select the POI category with which the POI is associated the TT only listed four POI categories! I couldn't access the POI I wanted to edit because the TT wouldn't list the category and when I tried to search for it the device said the category couldn't be found.
ALL of the categories are listed if I want to navigate to or add a POI but when I need to edit, only four categories are listed. Is this normal or does my TT have a bug in it? What do I do about it?
You can't edit or add to any of the built in POI categories using the POI tools. Those tools are only for editing/adding/deleting custom POI categories (the four you saw).
However you should be able to make your edit through MapShare.
So to be certain that I understand what you're saying,
A POI that I create and assign to built in POI category cannot be edited. I can only edit a POI I create and assign to a custom POI category.
In other words, the POI in question is one I created last week but didn't have the phone number at the time. I assigned it to a built in category. Now that I have the phone number I want to add the phone number to the POI.
Is there a way to do that if I can't go through the Edit POI feature on my TT?
No, not quite. Let's break this down into two types of POI edits:
Through Menu -> Change Preferences Manage POIs
Here you can only add POIs to custom POI categories. Not through the POI categories that come 'from the factory' so to speak. So you can only work with (add, edit, delete) POIs that are from the default, built-in set. So if you want to add (or edit, delete) a POI from the restaurant category you can't do it here since these are the built in, factory default POIs that came with the map. Any work done here will only show you the custom categories.
Through Menu -> Map Corrections -> Correct Map Error
Here you can change items in the built in categories through 'Add Missing POI' and 'Edit POI'.
So in your case where you say you created a POI last week you either assigned it to a custom POI category rather than the default ones, OR you created it through MapShare. You would need to follow the procedure you used before to edit it. If you created it through a custom category you would edit it through 'Manage POIs'. If you created it through MapShare you would edit it there as well.
