PostTomTom 720: Can you flip the display?  Sun Mar 09, 2008 5:30 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I just received the TT720 a couple days ago. On the same day that I ordered it I also ordered the Bracketron friction mount. After reading this forum I realized that it may not be the ideal mount for the 720 because the power cord and line out cord get in the way. While looking through the reviews on Amazon I found a post that mentioned that you can invert the display of the 720:
http://www.amazon.com/review/R1K2RT4HUCAWCR/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&ASIN=B000U5TUWE#wasThisHelpful

Is that true and if so where is that preference located? I have been through the preference section many times and I have not seen anywhere where you can change it.

The mount will be here on Monday and I am wondering if I should just sent it back and get a vent mount from mountguys.com. I know another option is to get the alternative TomTom mount to place on the friction mount but I don't feel like spending another $30.

Thanks,
DA

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll order the vent mount.

In the TomTom Menu Builder there is an option to turn the screen upside down.
You can try to see if that works, you'll loose the original menu, this requires another hack to get it back.
Too much hassle, buy the other mount. Very Happy

I encountered the same issue with the friction mount I purchased. I went ahead and bought the TT Alternative mount kit. It has a long flexible goose neck. I have it bent in a way that shortens it a bit while it still elevates the device enough that both the power cable and traffic receiver can be attached without interference from the friction base. It works very well for me. The only thing I notice is a very slight bounce in the device because of the flexibility of the support arm. It has it's own suction cup that's identical to the original mount. I purchased mine at Best Buy. The TT web site shows it as currently unavailable.

Thanks for the responses. I wonder how this one is from i-Trek:
http://www.amazon.com/Friction-Removable-Winshield-Pedestal-TTGO520-017%2BHD/dp/B00147JM16/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1205098437&sr=8-4

For some reason I did not see that one when I placed the order for the Bracketron.

The removable bracket is available by itself for about $12 plus shipping. If you already have the friction base you could just order the bracket and you would have what you're looking at on Amazon. I saw the bracket at Semsons.com.

I received the friction mount from bracketron and figured I give it a try. Guess what? It works fine. I have both the power cord and a line out cable plugged in and it works great. You just have to attach the window mount towards the front of the friction mount so the 720 can hang over the edge. I have no idea why so many people were complaining about this mount.
