PostNew Firmware for my 920T  Tue Mar 18, 2008 4:06 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I was offered the update on my 920T this morning. It appears to have installed, but I have not been back outside to see if there are any differences.

Oh, I had to re-select my custom vehicle icon.

My Version lists as:
App 7.480 (9084/080313) OS:3024

PostBe careful!  Tue Mar 18, 2008 4:19 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Please let me know the following:
1) Does Voice Recognition still work on your unit?
2) Does 'Operate My Go' still work using TomTom Home 2.2?

I don't want to be an alarmist but there was a release of this firmware earlier this week that some users somehow received. Their Voice Recognition ceased to work.

A user in a British forum JUST reported that his 720 unit no longer is capable of having Operate MY Go work through Home.

The release version earlier this week was apparently 1 number less than the release version today (in other words, 7.480.9083). That version seemed to break VR. The .9084 version in Britain seemed to break the 'Operate My Go' on the poster's unit.

I'll be looking forward to your feedback

I don't have a 920 with me to test voice recognition. 'Operate My Go' appears to be broken on Mac, haven't checked PC.

I would wait until this is stabilized. It was already pulled, so they seem to be still working on it.

There are a bunch of posters in the (other) US forum who have reported that VR is broken with the new release. Not one has gotten it to work.

PostNew Firmware for my 920T  Tue Mar 18, 2008 10:45 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Vive TomTom....

I update my TT 920 against my will (ehehehe..) and I've had none of the problems reported above : everything looked fine until I checked the 'Show Version' screen... Now my TT has been updated to a 720....

Great Job - hope next they downgrade my TT to a 520 or something like that. Does someone can / may leverage this to TT management ? I think Infama said he knows someone at VP level at TT - that would be a great opportunity to provide feedback.

I have a contact email, but the person never responds. DHN has a better contact.

Thanks Infama.... I wonder how TT invest so much money in marketing, and do such a poor job on the support side... Rolling Eyes

Just to add to my last statement : at least TT is hiring a 'Quality Change Manager' according to their web site. At least there is hope for improvements...

PostShould Have Listened  Sat Mar 22, 2008 11:50 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Well I went ahead and took the firmware download for my 920 - had too much time on my hands and was bored - wound up losing the VR function as well as the ability to "Operate My Go". I really don't want to go messing around with files so I'll sit with this for now and see what other features or issues have been added!! Hopefully another update will be out soon to rectify this.

A firmware update is supposed to be released Thursday to rectify the problems.

I guess there are three things to look for:
1. Is it released Thursday
2. Does it really fix all that got broken
3. What other functionality will it break Sad

Thanks for the info. I was ill at home this week and had nothing else to do so I gave in to temptation and took the update. Hopefully I'll find other things to distract me till Thursday!

PostData Phone not accepted  Tue Mar 25, 2008 5:25 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

With the new firmware update I also noticed that I cannot use the data connection feature with my motorola phone on my AT&T plan. It worked on the first Tom Tom I had. No weather updates for me.

Anyone else having these issues. hopefully it will all be solved by the update on Thursday!!!

Beatmix, when you receive your 920, there's no necessity in upgrading. As rec'd you should be fine as it won't have this latest firmware. Wait to update until you see a feature added that you'd like, or if there are operational issues that other users indicate a firmware update would correct. You will still be able to use Home 2.0 and all it's benefits either way.

When you do connect using TTHome, just make sure to visually read each UPDATE offered and UNcheck the one that would update the firmware on the device.

You'll want maps probably, maybe some additional voices, poi files and HOME itself has an update

PostI wish I new about the spoken directions being disabled  Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:35 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

After reading how you can get the spoken directions to work on the US version, I was Evil or Very Mad I updated my unit and didn't make a backup of the prior version.

I've had my 720 for 3 days now so I'm still learning. Can some tell me of I have the latest firmware and maps. I keep hearing about 7.15 so it looks like TT Home is not reconizing I have the old version even though I use the map guarantee function??

You can call TT support if it isn't letting you have the latest map through HOME.

PostThe update isn't complete...at least with me.  Wed Apr 02, 2008 2:37 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I downloaded the update before I left for work this morning and it did correct the voice recognition but I lost the option for recording and using my own voice. Also when I download the latest mapshare it doesn't seem to stick. I can download the mapshare file 20 times back to back in a course of a few minutes and it just keeps showing right back up.

I bought a 920T and I am tired of this. Just give me a product that works.
