I connected my TT720 today for the first time in a while. I says there is a new version of software, 7.480. I see by some comments that there are problems with this. Can someone tell me what they are? I am currently using 7.221.
thanks
I haven't seen any problems as it specifically relates to the 720. Those who used the hack to enable voice recognition have found that hack no longer works. Also some people have had trouble using the 'operate my go' function from within HOME after the update.

On my 920 the "Operate My Go" doesn't function in TT Home. I'm using a mac also. And voice recognition has also been disabled as well. I haven't noticed any other issues.

konradb... I am using Mac Power PC ( non-intel) and operate my Go has never worked. That said I recently updated my TT720 to 7.480 and it disabled the VR hack I had installed. However when I used the TomTom the other day I noticed that it no longer annoys me when I take a different route than was originally calculated, it just recalculates my destination from where I am at the time.
Previously when I took a different road from the one calculated the GPS would constantly tell me to turn around and go back to the way it wanted me to go. If I refused to obey it would get confused and just send me in any direction. This does not happen with the new update.
Now I think I would rather have the more correct route calculations than the Voice recognition since VR only worked for city, street and number, which is not too much.
Originally I thought the VR would allow me to give the TT voice commands such as "Call Edward Jones" and it would make the call, but no such luck. So I think I'll keep 7.480.

Spoken Dialog feature Mon Mar 24, 2008 3:42 am
I had to replace my 920 because the speaker was bad on the first one and I noticed today that the spoken address featre did not work. Have they disabled it. Also when I operate my Tom Tom 920 on HOME it says TOM TOM 720...anyone else experience these issues or hear any possible solutions?
Not having this feature is really annoying and I might return the unit because I only entered directions in with the spoken option.

thanks.
If you got the new software update the spoken address function seems to have been disabled for almost everyone. Ever since I got my 920 when I connected it to TT Home and used the "Operate My Go" function it always said "Welcome to Go 520". I believe that's just a glitch in the program. I ignore it, however I noticed that because of this there are certain options that do not show up even though they are on the device itself. Of course with the new update "Operate My Go" doesn't function on my mac anyway ( I have an intel Macbook Pro ) so that's not an issue anymore!!
Try this site http://www.oldboy.me.uk/TomTomUpdates/index.html you can get the old stuff there.
Thanks, I will give this a try. Are there any instructions for going back to previous version? Also wil Tom Tom Home work with the older version? And last, does anyone know why they disabled the feature and if it is temporary or not? I bought the 920 based on the excellent review that I read on this board about spoken navigation.
They advertise the feature on the box of the 920. If they do not fix it and put it back on the Tom Tom 920, that is the most blatant case od false advertisng I have ever seen!! This is very frustrating.

Just copy over the new application with the old one.
TT put out a buggy update and is working to fix it.

Does this mean that they will fix the spoken address dialog feature?
When I copy over the old application and connect the device TomTom Home, the feature will work again?

For me it is hard to fathom the very purpose of firmware update.
Is it about to kill the VR hack? I do not think so. For me VR problem is a collateral damage that will be eventually solved
I do believe this new firmware has some positives but up to now nobody mentioned anything about (some posts mentioned a few cosmetic changes in location and size of icons)
So, I'm still waiting...maybe in vain

My 720 concerns after upgrade to .480 app.
1 - VR icons now appear but do not work, in earlier code VR icos not there so I didn't care if it worked or not (out of sight out of mind). There are several posts regarding this which I will investigate.
2. Car Icon preferences now grayed out. Has anyone used this feature before? I had customized my car pointer from the normal blue tirangle to a cool sedan icon. but now I cannot change this. I can't find any posts regarding this, is there a hack to fix this?

My TT720 works fine now also. Everything works including VR. Route recalculating works a lot better than it did before.
You should try reinstalling the firmware.
You refer to .480. That is the firmware that BROKE VR. You need .481 which fixes it.
See whether your customized car icon can be selected with that upgrade (mine went back to the default but I could reselect. Also, it 'lost' the Voice I selected but I could reselect that, too).
