PostNew Nuvi update - Version 2.70  Thu Mar 27, 2008 12:15 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

I just read a forum entry at POI-Factory indicating that Garmin has released a Nuvi update, version 2.70. The manual download info. at the Garmin site indicates that the version date is March 2, 2008. I got my Nuvi 750 a week ago and used WebUpdater to update to version 2.60. I'm curious as to whether anyone has upgraded to 2.70. I've only seen mention of it on the the Garmin and POI-Factory sites. I'm a little reluctant to update after reading about some of the problems folks initially had with release 2.60. Any thoughts on the wisdom of updating at this point in time? Also, for those who may have version 2.70, I'd be curious as to the changes incorporated into the new release.

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:

* Correct issue that could cause MadMaps route calculations to stall.
* Correct Eniwetok timezone.
* On the Where Am I page, disable buttons that will not yield appropriate search results.

If you are hesitant to use the update wait a while, nothing too interesting or important here.

Just curious. . . when you go to Where Am I, does your "nearest intersection" update (w/hourglass) every few seconds?

May need to check further and see if this is intentional, perhaps more accuracy, or an unintentional "bug" in the update. Doesn't seem to be any real issue, but certainly a change. I should get an answer tomorrow.

did you use webupdater or did you apply 2.7 via its own install file? I'm hearing the latter approach is safer, so I'm curious how folks are applying updates.

thx

well, I went to the download page for the 760 (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00657-10&cID=134&pID=10624), clicked on download for ver 2.70, agreed to the terms and condtions, and was redirected to a download of the older version 2.60.

So, I guess people are using webupdater at the present time.

Yeah - I really hope the new UI gets added to the higher end series - it makes absolutely no sense for their flagship 7 and 8 models to not have it, but the cheap 25x ones do.

Response from Garmin on Where Am I feature change:

I'll be happy to help you with this. Apparently, there were issues with the validity of search results with the police, hospitals, etc that you can search for on that page and that was what was addressed with the update. The Where Am I feature is designed to update every second just as the unit does when you are in motion. I hope this addresses your concern.

Thanks all for your responses. It doesn't sound as if I'd miss anything critical by not updating immediately. I'll get to it at some point in the near future.

I agree. Unless you're loading "Mad maps", there's nothing there.

Didn't have any problems loading with the updater or operating with 2.7.

2.7 seems to have corrected the problem on my 760 where the speeds (Mph) would inflate for no apparent reason. Has not done this since I updated and was doing it quite regularly.

Wow, I hope it didn't update the bug about inflating MPH. I was feeling pretty proud for going over 300 mph. HAHAHAHa... love my 760 yet

This seems to have sped up POI searching for me by a considerable amount.
