Tom Tom one XL-S "discontinued"?!?!

I just had a really weird conversation with a couple of different Radio Shack stores. It seems the have been told the Tom Tom One XL-S is being discontinued and will no longer be sold by them. The clerks I spoke to were not sure if this was from TT or from RS and would not speculate as to what TT is doing.

If you are in the market for a new unit and there is a Radio Shack in your area carrying them, you can pick one up for 279.99

I have not found one in NYC or LI yet, but I am still making some calls.

The XL-S was just released in October, and the XL is still current, so it doesn't make much sense for them to discontinue it. It seems more likely that perhaps Radio Shack has just decided to stop carrying it anymore.

I was told the same thing at the Radio Shack in Lake Success, Long Island. However I informed the clerc that that it was just released in October, and their online website is currently selling them. In fact - it was a more current model than the ones he had to offer at the store.

He checked his computer and said that the only information he had was that the model was only available online, and not at the stores.

I have found when shopping for cameras that it often takes brick and morter stores an "extremely" long time to stock the newest models - as compared to shopping online. I thought this might be the same kind of a thing.

I checked several other local stores, and I couldn't find one - bu no other clerk stated that it had been "discontinued" like Radio Shack. Of course anything is possible - but I think that its more likely that the newer models have not hit the stores yet.

I chose to order it online from Dell with free shipping- for $239.00 plus tax.

Best Buy, and Office Depot are both showing availability online- but I'm not sure if the stores have them.

I tried Radio Shack, PC Richards, Walmart, and Sears- but couln't find one on Long Island.

I actually have seen them in Best Buys here in Manhattan, but opted for the 720 intstead since it was on sale and the price difference was minimal.

Could be something going on here. Tom Tom website indicates that the TT One XLS & the TT One 3rd Edit are not available from the TomTom.com

FWIW, I asked around about this. I was told basically what I expected.... Radio Shack decides for themselves what they want to stock. I asked about the tomtom.com website's message on those devices and they said it was coincidence and they are expected to become available again.

I see the XL-S and ONE 3rd Edition are showing as available again on tomtom.com.
