Nuvi 760 FM Traffic - Not activated Tue Apr 22, 2008 7:36 pm
I used to have a Nuvi 660 and I had a free 3-month traffic subscription. I seemed to remember it working right out of the box.
I now have a Nuvi 760 and I am not getting traffic information. Is there something I need to do to activitate my free subscription? The Quickstart instructions say I don't need to do anything.

But that's just it -- I am not getting any traffic info at all. I've had the unit for about a month, and it's plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet, but I never see any traffic info.

turn the nuvi on and make sure the traffic receiver is plugged into the cigarette lighter. I don't remember the exact path, but go into settings -> traffic...somewhere in there you will be able to find the expiration date of your traffic subscription.
My wife purchased a 760 back in December. After about a month she too stopped getting traffic information. I went in and found the subscription had already expired. I had to renew it and it was fine.
I purchased a 760 shortly thereafter and my trial is lasting the full 3 months. Not sure why...but you should check out the expire date.

Thanks everyone -- I checked the Traffic button and it says that it expires 6/26/08 -- so presumably my subscription is still active.
I haven't ever received a traffic alert in the month that I've had this unit. Is there any traffic information if there is no alert? I don't see anything on the map screen that indicates traffic info.

turn it on again with the traffic receiver plugged in. You should be able to go to tools->traffic and see the local traffic alerts, which won't necessarily display on your map view if they are outside the screen.
I also live in the DC area and there are always reports when I go to that screen. So, if nothing is there I'd be suspicious that the traffic receiver is defective.

Thanks. It apparently does work -- but I didn't see the traffic info because I didn't reallize you had to go to the tools menu then press the traffic button. I seem to remember that the 660 had a traffic icon right on the map screen, and you could see the info whether or not you had an alert. I guess I haven't actually been in traffic since I got the 760 so I haven't seen anything on the map screen.

A little yellow yield icon will show up if there is a traffic delay up ahead, with "up ahead" being defined as any road on your currently programmed route, or the road that you're currently on even if you don't have a programmed route. If you touch the icon more details will appear, showing the exact section of road that has the delay.
Also, they're hard to see, but there is more than one icon. One seems to show an accident and the other is just plain ol' backed up traffic. There may be more than this, but like I said, they're pretty dang small.

Thanks!
Well, today I finally saw a traffic alert on the map screen. However, it was not on my route of travel at all (I had a programmed destination) -- I was heading south on 270 towards the Beltway, then out on Dulles Toll Road. The traffic alert was for something several exits north on 270, at least 5 miles away.
I actually still think the traffic receiver only just started working. I have two 12V outlets. I had it plugged into the first one -- and when I checked that traffic button (after Tim told me about it in this thread) all it showed was the expiration date. No traffic info. The next time, I plugged the unit into the second outlet, and when I checked the Traffic button, I did get information. I also saw two lights on the plug, not just the one light I had been seeing. I then plugged it back into the first outlet, and continued to get the traffic info. I doubt that I had driven almost a month and not seen any traffic alerts at all, so I don't understand why, but I think it wasn't receiving before.

interesting. you may want to replace the fuse for the first 12V outlet, just in case. My wife was having issues powering her Nuvi from her car outlet. We replaced the fuse and all was well.
