I took my newly purchased Nuvi 260W for a spin today to see if everything checks out. After spending about 2 hours downloading and installing the 2009 maps, I popped the unit in my car and off I went. Everything worked just fine but I did notice something that was really killing my ears; the voice on the unit is so computerized and non-pleasing! Is there a change or update or something that I can do to change the voice? Are all units like that? I'm freshly divorced so my desire to want to beat the unit with a stick every time I heard the voice might be deeply rooted. This is my first GPS and while it seems easy enough to operate, I don't know all the technical ins and outs of the upgrades or customizations that I might be able to have done.
Seeing that this is a whole new world to me, what is TTS and how would they differ from non TTS voices?
Thanks for the reply.

They all are pretty bad IMHO. TomTom are probably a little better, but by and large, TTS voices are bad - I assume you're referring to TTS.
If you can do without it, you'll find that the non-TTS voices are a lot better.
Yeah, Tim's link says it all. Sorry, I could have been a little more explicit. I don't have a 260 in front of me, but if you go in settings, somewhere there you can select the voice you want for direction. The TTS voices should be identified as such - those are the ones that will call out the street names, those are the computerized voices, and they won't sound as good as the non-tts voices.
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, being able to hear the street names is a must for me and it was a major point for purchasing a unit. I guess I can learn to live with her annoying voice. Seeing that this is my first GPS and I've had no hands on with any other models, I figured some of the other brands might have sounded better.
Thanks again.
