Already a newer version than 7.15? Yikes that was fast. Anyone else out there heard of this? There will be alot of calls to TT from those with "Latest Map Guarantee" that is for sure.

I also have a new 930 and there is a new map version for that one as well - 805. Both of these new versions show up in TT Home under add maps. I don't know that I need a new version on the 930 but if they're honoring the 30 day guarantee I'll certainly take advantage of it.

Well, that doesn't mean anything... It just means an update map isn't yet available. We all know that thing is ridiculously broken when it comes to telling you if it is available or not, but that doesn't mean they are not honoring it or that the 930 doesn't come with the latest map guarantee. After-all, they say it right here.
Well... let me qualify that... in comparison to what map version?
805 is not newer than 720 for example. The first number refers to the version of the TomTom application it is compatible with, the rest of the numbers correspond to the map sequence number.
Therefore 675, 705, and 800 could all refer to the same map version, but in different formats destined for different application versions. (In that example they are not the same map-- I'm just illustrating the point.)

It isn't often broken for long, but you can certainly call CS and they will likely add it to your account manually. That is, assuming of course you had a 930.
The unfortunate part of "broken" Home features is that the huge majority of new owners would simply think there was no map update available and forget about it. After 30 days, they're out of luck. I see no reason a nofication of an available map update couldn't be posted on your page in the obvious place. . . Check for Updates! It appears that TT is avoiding having to fill the map guarantee by simply not telling the owners it is available. I can't think of any reason not to have this listed under Updates along with firmware, mapshare corrections, etc. After all, they know what map you have if they're offering corrections.
The issue seems to happen as a new map update becomes available. It seems to take a few days after it is released "retail" for it to become available through the LMG.
But why not have it come up automatically with your other updates rather than expecting a new owner to notice the small "file" menu that's not even a part of the Home graphical interface? It just looks like they are purposely hiding it away, making it even more likely that it's never even noticed or used. The other "advertised" features of Home are right there are right in front of you, big ol' icons and all. Even an icon to look for maps you'd might like to purchase, but not "use map guarantee". I'm sure they hope you'll buy it instead.

I just got off the phone with TT support and was told that the latest map guarantee will apply to my 930. He told me there is a problem currently with TT Home picking that up correctly. He said to try again tomorrow and if it still doesn't work to fax the receipt (or scan it if you have that option) in with the reference number he gave me. But he did assure me that being the newest unit out there that it did apply. My guess is that they are still getting everything up to speed on these units. If you notice you have to go the British TT site to download the user manual. And the traffic receiver they list for sale still doesn't indicate that it's compatible with the 30s.

That is probably because the one they list isn't compatible with the 30s. The 30s don't have the same port on them and will require a USB type splitter cable to join the traffic and USB cable.
Infama, just go ahead and download them. You have a one-year latest maps guarantee coupon for your 920. Then you can let the rest of us know.

Recall that new maps start fresh with Mapshare as well, so there has to be structural improvement to get me to do all that work! The HP has me busy enuff.
In any case, I fired off an email to TA USA and expect to get a confrimation of the multinet 2008.01 changes soon.
Personally I think that every quarter is not reuired. Once every year would be much better. Would reduce the strain on servers etc and just how much of a change is there going to be every quarter? This new version has 84,000 added miles with 99% street network coverage. This sounds significant to me however not exactly sure as what it will all boil down to.

None of it. At this point TomTom isn't releasing MapShare data to TA. (At least last I checked, we can expect that might change if the acquisition goes through.)
With the Jan release I think there were just a lot of people "in the cycle" getting their LMG from holiday purchases that the servers got bombed. I don't think we are seeing that now, despite a map release just a couple of days ago.
Personally I like the quarterly release... when I decided I want a new map I want it to be as recent as it can be-- not something from up to a year ago. Whenever I decide to buy a new map it will have been released within the past three months rather than within the past 12 months.
Good point Tim. I just don't feel that the changes will be that significant every quarter. However the option is left to the customer and I agree that the more up to date the maps the better the devices will work in the field. It sure does create a beehive of activity though with these one year guarantee map certificates.
I do not see the average customer updating his/her map every quarter though due to cost and slow server downloads.
I totally agree, and I don't think TomTom expects people to update their maps every quarter. I know I certainly won't be-- not at that cost.
Now if they want to go the NAVIGON route and charge me $75 for a three year subscription and allow me to get the map update every quarter-- then they will have my attention and I probably would update quarterly.
Tim when the maps download from TT do they download directly to GPS or do they download to your computer and then install from PC? I was told that your device had to be connected to PC during the download. I know that this is all done through HOME. After the installation is there a copy left on your PC in the HOME directory?
the reason I am asking is that I have to go to a friend's place to download as I do not have broadband here in this area. Once downloaded I do not want to leave anything on his PC. Once I get home I will then backup a copy of the 7.20 to my PC.
Yes, everything dl from TomTom first goes to a location on the computer and then gets installed from the computer to the unit. In fact, there is no other way to install maps onto a unit (the first time) than by using Home software.
So, in your example, you'd have to go to another computer, install TTHome, do the download there (likely have to recreate a TomTom login email id), install it on the unit.
Before deleting the folders created on the second computer, I'd copy the downloaded map (which comes in a .cab [compressed] format) to a thumb drive to take back to your home computer and copy into the equivalent folder on your machine.
Once you are satisfied the map has been installed properly on the unit using the second machine and you've backed up the map file, I guess you could then: a) run the removehome.exe application (or remove the program in Add/Remove programs in Control Panel) and use Explorer to delete the files and folders created in the installation regarding the download folder location.
My concern here is that, judging by TomTom developers' (lack of) coding skills in other areas, I suspect that bits & pieces of TomTom code will still be left on your friend's machine.

I wanted to reply to this because I did something stupid but it may turn out ok. I have the 930 and when I saw that the new map version - 8.05 - was available I called TT support to request it under the 30 day policy. I was told to wait a day, try again and if no go to fax a copy of the receipt with the reference number I was given.

So I thought maybe they will give me a credit. I called in to request this and spoke to a very helpful person who understood what I wanted but whomever she checked with told her that was not possible. Well after getting off the phone I went to the TT web site and logged in and sent a message through the support contact with the reference number and explanation of what I wanted. That was this morning, just a little while ago I got an email from them stating I was entitled to the free map and that they were submitting the issue to their finance department to process a credit. Well we'll see how this turns out, I did bring it on myself. and regardless of the outcome their customer service people have been very easy to deal with. The email route may get to a higher tier person who has more discretion to rectify things.
At least the one thing that has been consistent is that they are honoring the map guarantee on the 30 units within the 30 day period, I had read some differing opinions of this before.

gatorguy this can be also read as "The latest map guarantee does not apply to the map that is currently installed on your TomTom device" that current units might have been shipped or sold to dealers might have older software during that transition period.
Meaning your unit at that time of purchase might not have the latest maps loaded. There will be a time period when they release new software that dealers might have older gps units with older maps loaded and these should qualify for the free update.
I was lucky enough to purchase a 920 that had the 1 year map guarantee and I’m happy to say that TomTom support has been great. When I updated to v715 (a few months back), I had to send proof of purchase which was not really a big deal. Yesterday, I sent an email asking about the new maps and today I received a reply stating that they would be available the next time I connect the device. Connected the device and there were both the US and Western Central Europe maps waiting for me to download.
i had the same experience as MileHigh. I called TT and arranged for the 7.20 maps. NO problems.
Does anyone know if TT will sell the new 930 trick software to us 920 users who just bought their machines in December?

I just downloaded v7.20 for my go720. I am still upset with the lack of POI's. I tried to locate 3 businesses this afternoon and none of them showed up. They have been open for at least 10 years. My parents Garmin 350 would find things that had been opened for a year.
Am I doing something wrong or are the POI's on the 720 that bad to where I should bring it back for a Garmin?
There might be a slight misunderstanding about how POIs work. GPS devices don't include all known POIs like they do the road database-- only a small percentage of them in most cases. You might want to check out our article on POIs. If there is something specific (like a chain or type of location) you want on your device, your best bet, almost always, is to find a resource for those locations and add them yourself. In many cases you can find pre-built custom POI files for what you are looking for in TomTom HOME or on POI websites. The length of time a location has been in business doesn't determine if the GPS company will include that POI on a certain device.
