Show the road I am driving on Wed May 07, 2008 9:24 pm
How do I do that? I know I can touch the top of the screen and then it will shows the road I am on. But after like 1-2 seconds, that information will disappear. How do I have it set up to that information always shows?

Thanks.
There is a mod for this at gpspassion...posted 2 days ago.
Now if they can just do a "mod" to correct the estimated travel time
Funny you mention this because I'm planning a short 2 1/2 hour trip (one way) this morning, to a known destination - don't really need the GPS but taking it along any way, in case I have to detour and what not, a use the wonderful Avoid functionality of my 310!
Kidding aside, the ETA is right on. So this weakness, if there is one, must vary by region then, which is kind of strange. You'd think that if the calculation algorithm is right, it should be right for all areas - unless the discrepancies are rooted in map errors and not caused by a bug with the 310 per se.
Uncle Ben, from previous posts on the TA map, I suspect that may be exactly the case. Seems Infama has mentioned incorrect speed data being used in many areas, causing incorrect route computations at times as well as poor time estimations. It's a shame I didn't have a TT here at the same time I had the 310. It would have been a perfect time to see if the problem was due to the TA map or device differences.

Well, there are other contributors to this forum who have lots and lots of GPS devices, some even carry one on their lawnmower so they can follow the tracks from one cut to the next... So perhaps a good and rich soul with all three devices will chime in with an update.

Elementary logic seems to support this, as the 930 with IQR greatly improves the problem. This means that when TA speed data is substituted by actual avg travel time, you should expect to see a positive difference, as you do!
Also note that TA will sell their map data bundled with historical traffic data through the TA partnership with INRIX. TomTom seems to have decided to go their own route while Dash is blending INRIX data with their own so perhaps that came through the TA/INRIX partnership.
MT, how do you save all your mod work so that you don't have to recreate the wheel after installing updates?
I create a dated folder with all the relevant mods at that time. My latest is called FW3point5 (reflecting the application patch) and subfolders describe things like "trasparent mod and EFM mod". I also store the original HP files.
In any case, given a FW update, you cant just replace the new files with the modded ones (too dangerous). I actually copy past the code mods into the new FW updated file, just to be safe.

I almost understood......
You back up the "new" files from the update first and then you copy the mod files to the unit or not? If not, how do you get the mods back into the unit if you don't copy/overwright them?

First I create a new folder for the upcoming latest version of the Mod.
I back up the new files and ALSO make a working copy to the desktop. This working copy is destined to be the new mod file. I then open the old saved mod file (there are several actually, but I use one as an example here), and also open the working "virgin" file using Winword or NotePad. I then find the correct locations in the virgin file and copy over the modded lines to the new file, this way I keep all the possible updated changes HP made and only copy the actual modifications. I then save the updated file to the new Mod folder and then copy to the resident flash data.zip allowing it enough time to be recompressed. As I dont want to mess up. I use this elaborate process so that I can always restore. of course the first thing I do is to make a backup of the virgin data.zip and then I backup the modded version as well (all dated).
