PostNuvi 760 ~ Where's My Car?  Thu May 15, 2008 1:43 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

How do you use this feature fellas?
I don't see it anywhere when I click on tools.

I'm sitting at home, playing with it and checking out features, it's not hooked up to the cradle or anything.

Also, Shouldn't I see a "Traffic" tab under tools as well?
Granted, the traffic feature is not available where I live, but shouldnt this option be listed under tools anyway?
I also don't see any MSN direct option under tools.

Comments are appreciated.

Thanks
AJ

AFAIK, this is how it works:

When you remove the 760 from its cradle it automatically marks that position and puts it in your favorites.

From page 56 of the Owner's Manual:

How can I find my car in a parking lot? Touch Tools>Settings>Navigation>Route Preference>Off Road>OK to put the nuvi in OFF ROAD MODE. Touch Where To>Favorites>Last Position>Go.
Navigate to your car!

Or you can ask your spouse.

So you say you didn't get an owner's manual. Fancy that. You have to download it off the Garmin Website.

Your manual is here:

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/nuvi750-GPS-Atl_OwnersManual.pdf

Once you down load it in to your computer, make sure you click SAVE A COPY so that you will have it on your harddrive and not have to down load it all the time. You can also print a copy.

Regarding your question about the traffic, I don't know. I have a Nuvi 5000 with a MSN antenna. There is a MSN butterfly under tools on mine but nothing about traffic. On page 33 of the above manual it says to touch Tools>Traffic. Maybe if you don't have valid signal coming in the Traffic Icon does not appear. Are you sure you are using the Traffic power cord/antenna? My guess is that without valid signals or proper subscription, the unit does not display the Icon.

You need the GDB 50 MSN Direct Receiver to get MSN Direct data (traffic, weather, movie times, etc.). Once you get one, you have to register the MSN Direct unit online to activate it.

Post760 Comes With Traffic  Thu May 15, 2008 3:19 am    Reply to topic Reply with quote

The 760 comes with integrated FM Traffic (not MSN). So why is our friend not getting the Traffic Icon under Tools?

The trial subscription only lasts 3 months. It seems that the Icon should be present even if the subscription has passed or was never registered because the 760 is shipped with integrated traffic. I could see the 750 not having the icon, but it don't make sense on the 760.

Oh I know the 760 comes with the TMC traffic receiver. He mentioned MSN Direct though.

Anyway, yeah the regular traffic receiver should just be plug and play unless someone bought this unit more than three months ago, used it for a little bit and returned it and the place you bought it from resold it as new...

You might also have to select off road mode and then use the speedo page to count down in feet to your car

My 780 has the MSN, however, Charleston, SC does NOT have the traffic transmissions. Look at the MSN site for your location and what is covered there, a chart lists what you have available, I et everything but traffic and the subsequent traffic alerts.

Not sure if this is your problem or not, but the menus are context sensitive to your current environment. So, for example, if you have the Nuvi turned on battery power and not plugged in to the 12V car outlet via the traffic receiver, you won't see any of the traffic options. Also, if you have bluetooth enabled but your phone is out of range and consequently not paired up, you won't have any of the phone options.

That right there is a big help.
Thank you.
I saved it to my hd as well as printed off a copy.
This will make some good bedside reading.

The only thing that came in the box were
* safety instructions
* Garmin quick start guide

Thanks again

I haven't found pedestrian mode to be that accurate. It's sometimes around 30 feet off. It tells me to turn left in 30 feet and I'm already at the car!

Of course, it's useless in indoor multi-storey parking garages too, which is where I'm most likely to lose my car! Wink

GPS is generally accurate to within 10 meters, so that would be expected.

Garman,
Thanks - I do know about off-road mode. Not sure whether I was in off-road mode every time I've used it as a pedestrian though. I'll check next time.

I printed off the 760 instructions from the link provided and took it to Staples where they binded it for me in a nice clear binder for $3.

Thanks again to everyone
