Is there a GPS for multiple uses? Please Help! Fri Jun 13, 2008 4:13 am
I've been trying to do some research on these but I am now more confused than ever. My husband is a cyclist but we also enjoy hiking and it would be nice to also be able to use for driving. We don't need music or blue tooth. Just directions. Can you get this all in one product or should you buy separate devices, and if you should buy separate, what would be best for hiking/cycling? For driving, if we just would like to have voice directions for North America but don't need the bluetooth, music, video options, which would be the best to buy. Initial cost is not an issue but we don't need to be able to have traffic updates if that means a monthly subscription to something.
Thanks in advance for any help I can get!
Try the Garmin Vista HCx (don't miss the 'H' - it make big difference). You operate while your hubby drives.
After a while, if you cannot live with that then buy a unit for car only.
Some people are perfectly happy using a handheld for car navigation. I am not.
One detail, mount, cigarette lighter adapter & maps are extra. Each map can cost as much as a cheap car unit that come with map included.
Oh how times have changed in the past few weeks. Soon you might be able to have that one magical GPS that does it all. Garmin today (finally) announced the new Garmin Nuvi 500 series devices which are basically Nuvi 2x5 series devices that are waterproof with a touch screen, user replaceable battery, and include both auto maps and topo maps.
