Thanks for the info, Tim. What would YOU do? Wait for August or save the 30% now.

I'm actually wrestling with that myself.... Here is how I'm looking at it. I've got a 720 that I purchased just about the day it became available-- and is in need of an update. I'd love to get IQ/ALG on it. You save $20 with the current discount. I think IQ is worth the $20, so in that light-- I'd personally wait. But there is still a chance that the 720/920 won't get IQ/ALG in the next map. I think I'm going to wait to see what happens in August.

That's the way I'm leaning too. Between the 710 map I have and the 720 map I could get, I don't figure there's too much difference for the way I use the unit and the places I travel to.

I did just notice one flaw in my logic... The map that comes with IQ/ALG has been selling for about $20-30 more than the map without it-- so you might end up paying $40-50 more for the new map with those features in August... if it becomes available for the x20.

True, but I guess the extra increase in cost (in my case, for example) may be justified by not only having IQ & ALG but also extra map detail between 710 that I have and 8x which I would need to buy.

If they release new maps for x20s with IQrout and Advance Lane Guidence then it seems better to buy x20s for $100.00 less, as for the new buyers those maps suppose to be free for 1 month. Am I right?

There are just a lot of "ifs" in there to gamble with... If I was buying now and wanted IQ/ALG, I wouldn't buy a 720/920 hoping to get the new maps in a month. That seems too risky.

You are right. But if any one can effort to wait, it will be interesting. Tomtom either has to put some restriction on x20 maps or has to make x20s and x30s of same price. LOL

This guy might be on to something! For $99 I might just try and see if it will work with my 720. If it does... might as well get the maps now while they are on discount! Laughing Laughing

I can confirm I now have a 720 with IQ Routes and ALG... Now to see if there are any massive bugs I can find.

I don't see any issues at this point... but one question remains. I purchased the maps for the 730... v8.05 which are 1712.6 MB. The v8.05 maps for the 930 are 1921.6 MB. (We know they are larger because they contain more POI files.) They are the same price. The difference is 209 MB.

I've got 174 MB of free space on my drive with the maps for the 730, but if I could find a bit more free space-- perhaps I should have purchased the maps for the 930 which contain more POIs.... Something else to ponder.

And no, sorry, I'm not going to spend another $100 to find out. Smile

Great work. I found a 920 for $324.00. That means for 424.00 I can get an acting 930 in 920 unit. Cool. One last concern I guess.

After installing Tomom Home and upgrade it to 2.0 and registering my GPS with tomtom, is it going to let me download v8 map for 930?

or, do I have to prospond registering my GPS unit.

(Probably my questions are pretty dumb but as this is going to be my first GPS, I dont know how it works.)

Looks like I'd need to find about 35 MB of space... I can delete the map overlay and save 10.2, but then I still need to find another 25 MB... plus probably give it some breathing room. I could perhaps delete some of the speech files for states I won't use them in as a trade for more POIs... Texas is 35 MB, Canada is 31 MB, California is 22 MB, etc.

Yeah, I suppose. But for as many devices as I have it isn't worth it. Smile

Tim, you probably miss my question. So I am asking again.

If I buy now a 920 and install home and do all the necessary upgrade.... do I have to buy V8 map before registering my GPS unit with tomtom?

or in other words, is it matter what gps unit I have for buying V8 maps?

I so knew that comment would be coming that I almost debated taking that part out... but I figured in defense I could say that I was sorting by the biggest first-- and those were the biggest of the speech files.

But if you must know... I have a secret obsession with Canada. Part of my family is from Newfoundland, I've lived most of my life within 50 miles of Quebec, and the best vacation I've ever taken was in Victoria, BC. I've never driven across the US, but I have been driven about half way across Canada. That and your Oreo cookies are so much better than ours... but that is another story for another day. Laughing

I think it is the other way around... you need to setup an account/register before you can purchase a map.
