Add a JPG picture to the Garmin/JPEG folder and then use the picture viewer, find the photo, and tick the box that says 'show at startup'.

what do you consider the splash screen? The one that says 'loading maps'? Does not look customizable to me.

I tried that but it shows an ugly black border around the pic. What's the best size pic for the screen?

The initial startup screen. The one with the Garmin logo and black background.

I think it does that regardless of the size of the picture to ensure that the copyright information is always visible.

There is your answer. The border is not part of the picture. Any picture will apear inside the border...........
