garmin refused to believe it is a firmware bug. my unit is only 2 days old. it forced me to upgrade firmware when i loaded the 2009 maps without a choice to keep the old firmware. someone at garmin tech support needs to read this thread. i am jst curious as to why others who have upgraded to the 2009 maps havent reported this bug earlier.
found that ealier today, firmwre 4.xx wont let you manually revert back to a version 3.xx , im extremely frustrated. this is my first and possibly last garmin product.
I'd probably be patient for just a day or so. It's not that your GPS is not working, it's just not giving your the verbal turn notifications you're accustomed to. I'm sure Garmin has received a number of calls on this and should realize by now that something in the update has caused a problem. Call back in a couple of days to see if they know anything more about it. I would expect another update to be pushed out to correct their mistake in short order.
Bossman/Cribber, where did you purchase your 200's? Depending on the retailer, I might simply return them as defective, pick up a new one and just avoid the updates until someone here give the all-clear on it.
I have the same problem (earlier post). I contacted Garmin, and explained the problem. I ask to get the nuvi200_410.exe file, to switch back to my latest working version. The CSR said he asked his supervisor if this was possible,
and was told that it could be done. He'd e-mail it to me. He asked me, to do a Master Reset before switching back, because it just might be my unit. I told him that others are having this issue. He asked if I knew how many. I said that there are about 4 others on the forum that I was looking at. He said that Garmin has sold millions of Nuvi 200s and if there was a software bug that they would be getting a lot more calls. So, I did the Master Reset, and the problem is still there. I also, thru Webupdater, tried re-installing 4.30 and the problem again is still there. I just got my e-mail reply from Garmin
"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I have been unable to obtain the requested file for software release 4.10 for a Nuvi 200. I have my supervisor working on obtaining this file and we are also looking into any evidence of 4.30 having certain issues with it’s performance…….I will send you this file when available and might request to set up an RMA warranty exchange as a possible resolution ………."
I will not be sending my "New" unit back for a refurbished / reconditioned warranty exchange. If Garmin does not resolve this soon, I hope the store that I bought it at will exchange it for another one.
I've got the same issue with my 260, but I'm not sure that I don't like it. I always thought that Jill was a bit too chatty anyway, and I know my wife will like it better.
i just got off the phone with garmin and he said that they r aware of the problem but untill the next update comes out there is nothing we ca do about it when the new update comes out it will fix the problem he wouldnt tell when it may come out but he said it will be posted on garmins website i hope this helped anyone i guess we just have to deal wit it till the next update
Wow, interesting, I have a Nuvi 760 and I just installed the latest update and all is fine. Still tells me to turn-in xxx miles verbally before the turn. I wonder if this is affecting only certain models. Hope there's a fix soon for everyone.

I would be interested in which models have had the update and results of those updates to see which models should or should not be updated. It might be useful for the other users who have not updated yet. I have the 760 and have not updated (nor plan to right now) and have only seen one good result for the 760 and a lot of bad results from other models not sure which. Maybe we can add the model also in the thread? Thanks and I hope like others have mentioned Garmin takes notice.
My initial contact with Garmin Support, requesting the nuvi200_410.exe file, resulted with this reply
Dear Sir,
The link below will allow you to take a step back in the operational software. Click on the link and select the unit that you are looking for. It will then show a list of software versions. You'll select the version for 4.10. Please let us know if you have any further questionsor comments.

I went to that site, but the only 4.10 files were for the Nuvi 300/350/610/660 models. So when I called Garmin Support and told them that the Nuvi200_410 was not listed at that site, I was told not to DL 4.10 for any of the other model, each one is different. So maybe 4.30 is just affecting the Nuvi 200.
It would be helpful if we could find out if someone updated their Nuvi 200 to 4.30 and they are not seeing this problem

Bill......
I upgraded my 760 to 3.10 haven't noticed any changes - positive or negative.
Just got this e-mail, from Garmin Support, this morning.
Sir,
A company memo was issued this morning pertaining to the issue you and I discussed on the 16th and we will be releasing some new software in the very near future. Please check our website for this update within the next 7-10 business days. Thank you for your patience with this issue and assistance in bringing it to our attention……..

I am surprised that this bug got through testing. It just tells me they didn't do a full regression test for this release. I am sure they were getting confident in their releases and ran it through a quick test for whatever reason. This isn't an obscure feature - this is one of the core functions of the GPS device. You would think one of the tests would be to have it run through a route in simulation mode to make sure it does what it is supposed to do (if that wasn't one of their tests it will be now). I am sure some developers and QAers are putting in some overtime for this one to fix what they broke!
As for other units - I also updated my 760 and it works fine. I used it for routing and the voice prompts work correctly.

This bug could've been found by simply simulating a route and letting the GPS run through it for a few turns as bacevedo stated.
I do agree though that they likely can't run the unit through every single possible scenario but for a core GPS function like this, and especially when the change log states that they did something with voice support, you would think they'd at least concentrate on this specific area of the unit.
I just got my 200 this week and was extremely happy with it until I registered it and loaded the update. Was extremely dissapointed with the update and the limited voice commands. Hopefully they will fix this soon or allow us to reload the older software version. Please let us know if anyone hears anything further on this. I was seriously thinking of taking it back while it was still under the warranty at the retail store until I heard others were having the same problem.
