PostA somewhat silly question - GO730 or GO920?  Fri Aug 01, 2008 7:07 pm    Reply to topic Reply with quote

Assuming the 730 and the 920 are the same price, which one would you get? I'm questioning which might be a better route to go, technologywise - "Newer but fewer" or "older but more"?

Or look at the 930 for 50 bucks more...?

Thanks in advance! Smile

I got my 920 last week after going thru all the researches. Main reasons: EPT, Europe maps and larger internal memory (4GB vs. 2GB). On the 730, ALG is nice, but not a major feature for me, and according to all the posts, they are not widely available in the US. IQ Routes is the only feature on 730 that I want to have; but it requires users to buy new maps often to get more embedded data.

Anohter reason: I got my 920 brand new from an authorized online dealer for only $309 USD shipped. It's even cheaper than the new 720, not talking about the 730. I figured a few years from now, I just buy another much better one instead of going for a half baked 730/930 now Laughing

Again, there's no single best GPS as everybody pointed out. Get what you can afford that met your current requirements.

For $50 more, I believe that the 930 gives you lane assistance and IQ routes, which Tim has reviewed in a very positive light.

If you need European maps, or frequently drive under double stacked bridges, in downtowns of large cities, or in tunnes--- go for the 920.

Otherwise the 730's IQ routes is a nice advantage. The 920 comes with a remote too... but you can purchase it as an accessory for the 730.

Many of the differences mentioned in favour of going with the 920 makes it a better unit IMO. One other feature that is with the 920 is the remote you might think why would I want a remote well after owning the 920 for 6 months now I personally find the remote very handy because while on the move it is difficult to touch the screen as you are jittering along even with a stylus and ether you are your co-pilot can easily manouvre among the screens while on the move with the remote.
The other issue to consider is that with the 8.010 frame ware that you can upgrade to with the 920 via home for free and the new 8.xxx maps that are scheduled to be released for the 920 this month you will have the same features as the 730 like the lane guidance and IQ routes so if you can get the 920 for the same price as the 730 it might make more sence to go for the 920 and get the updates or if you arn't in a hurry wait and see if the 8.xxx maps are released for the 920 within the next few weeks before making your final decision.

So - in the end the 920 has European maps and a remote vs Lane Guidance and IQ Routes on the 730.

All you need to do is figure which ones you need more, that's all.

Oh - and btw, it isn't a silly question.
